Under the kitchen sink........
I am repairing some plumbing under the zepplin's kitchen sink (can you say polybutylene?) and have noticed a material used to cover an elbow where it passes through the floor. It is black, uniform in color, and still, after 25 or so years, relatively flexible--I can make a shallow dimple in it with my thumb.
Does anyone know what this material is, and if it is still available? If it is plumber's putty, it seems an exceptionally good variety. Are there any tricks for fast removal, or a known non-distructive solvent?
Best to all
