Transbrake adjustment

I need to adjust the driveline parking brake on the 310. Ive got the hand lever type. Ive read the GM manual and it sounds pretty straight forward, star wheel on a drum brake adjuster. Any tips before I get started from those of you that have done this.

Chock wheels, tranny in nuetral, unscrew thumb turn on hand lever all the way out, all four rear wheels off ground, screw driver to stick in the whole to adjust the star wheel, adjust till resistance on spinning rear wheel, back off just a hair.

Its been at least 25 yrs since Ive adjusted drum brakes. Nothing is ever EASY on these old rigs.......

I had to adjust mine last summer on a trip. All I did was adjust the cable at the clevis just before the drum and it works fine I tried to use a screw driver but could not get it to work, I think you need a actual old style brake adjuster tool.

I would adjust the knob inside then adjust the free play at the clevis and try it. I never jacked mine up you should be able to tell by the tension on the lever when you pull it on

Yep.....I must have been reading the GM manual for the wrong year. No star wheel adjuster. Its all threaded rod and connectors before the drum. Much easier to adjust than the old star wheel. Thanks for the response John.
