Tires

A large shop in Redding Calif is recommending the Sumitomo tires instead of Michelin or Goodyear. They say much less money and as good as Michelin. What do folks think or know about the Sumitomo tires?

Thanks
Dean

I'm in Redding, don't know which shop you are dealing with but would be interested in finding out about the Sumitomo brand. If you are not in a hurry I do know of a shop that will get just about any brand and usually beats any other price I can get.

Shop is All Wheel Alignment and Brakes. North end of town on Oasis just off 5.

I want them to remove front air bags and replace front springs with heavy duty sprints as well.

Have you heard of them?

The Sumitomos are good tires. We used to sell them for every 3/4 ton and larger truck that came in needing tires. They wear like iron.

I'm beginning to really hate California, not that I haven't over the last 46 yrs that I have been here. One would think that anything and everything would be available here! How gullible am I? That's why I buy almost everything on line and the beautiful thing about that is that the corrupt politicians in this state get no sales tax dollars from me (currently at 9.25%)

Ok, sort of got a quote back from "All Wheel Alignment and Brakes". Around a $1000 for springs, installation and front wheel bearing repack. Henderson's in Grant Pass Oregon wants $1160 for springs and installation. I would run up to Grants Pass in a heart beat but just not going to work on the calendar. All Wheel however can not tell me who's springs they use. ???

This morning he was all hot to sell me Sumitomo tires. Now he won't give me a price on anything. Says he can't find 8R19.5 tires. I had to tell home that the Sumitomo ST718 comes in a 8R19.5. He is playing with me now to get me into the shop for the other work and then sell me something expensive on the tire side.

Anyone got a lead on Sumitomo tires in the Redding to Sacramento California area?

SilverHoot, please pass the name/address of that tire shop along to me. I'm not in that must of a hurry for the tires.

Our 310 came with a new set of "Gold Coin" brand tires when we bought it last year, I think it's a Chinese brand. While we have had our share of issues with the 310 driving it from Denver to San Diego to Montana to Texas, the tires have driven fine and still look new.

Consider going metric too... 225/70 19.5 has a larger footprint..

Any truth to the posts here and elsewhere that these tires are...

too big to be run as dual's?

Smaller diameter so engine rpm must be higher to maintain speed and this affect gas mileage?

Goodyear G670's are a bad tire to run on front since they "river" and blow out on sidewalks?
