I think thats pretty much true with all modern radios.

Which reminds me I need to add a switch to my F250 diesel. I don't drive it much anymore and the new radio tends pull the batteries down after a few months.

2. To operate the DVD player at all times, wire the handbrake (pink) to ground (disclaimer, its illegal to operate a DVD player while driving!)
3. The backup camera uses the green wire to turn on the camera in reverse. Wire that green wire to constant power using a toggle switch to trick it into thinking you are in reverse

Yep, made those mods to my two Fords. Well worth doing

No cooling issues, but I will need the fans for the AC.

To go along with the two fans you might also consider a radiator fan temperature control. I bought a Hayden 3647 for my TR4 and it worked well so I bought another one for the Argosy.

You might also want/need to add a Trinary switch in place of the Binary switch in the AC system. The second function of the Trinary switch is to cause the fans to turn on anytime the compressor clutch is engaged.

It's amazing how many different things you have to research and learn when working on one of these old rigs!

No, have to take measurements to pick a good size and also have to build support brackets.
I have to dig a little deeper into the EFI system, supposedly, the fan can be controlled by the ECU. The trinary switch sounds interesting, I would use it for the aux Switch I have on the dash to run the fan at my control, unless the trinary switch is pressure activated only?
You always have such valuable info, wished i would have asked you about the handbrake and reverse wires before going on this wild goose chase.
At least I came to the conclusion as you did, which could mean 2 things: Either we are both pretty smart or very stupid

Here's a couple of pages out of the P30 chassis manual showing the fan arrangement. The original installation used two 10" fans but sometime in 1990 GM supposedly switched to one 16" fan. I've not seen the 16" installed before and my preference would be two fans. That way if one fails you still have one fan working.

When wiring them use separate relays for each fan on separate fuses. If one fuse blows you'll still have the other fan running.

The Trinary switch is screwed into a port on the high pressure freon side of the compressor. The original Binary switch was used to disengage the clutch on high freon pressure. The Trinary switch was brought into service when the switch was made from R-12 to R-134a. R-134a runs at higher pressures so the additional contact in the Trinary switch turns on the fans to try and bring the head pressure down.

The Hayden controller I listed previously does something similar but the the Trinary switch works off of freon system pressure and the Hayden works off engine coolant temp. I plan on using both in my system.

temp varies a lot with the range being around 160 -180, goes up at traffic stops drops down fast once you get moving.

Brad, you will be very happy with the new fan clutch. Very smooth and quiet operation. Best I had.

Peter, if you have one of those laser temperature readers you should go for a "spirited" drive and take a quick laser reading and compare it to the gauge on the dash.

I'm curious if you notice any difference in readings.

Picked a license plate camera, for ease of wiring, since I didn't want to drill any holes on the roof.
Very pleased with the performance, its BOYO VTL16.
Only issue i am having is that the instructions call for clipping a small wire to reverse the image if used as a rear view camera. I did it, but the image did not flip. left is right

Did the instructions say how to turn the parking lines on & off? The camera I bought for my F250 has the lines but I don't think they can be turned on & off. However the camera at least oriented the picture correctly.

One tiny wires supposedly controls the left/rgiht orientation and the other the parking lines. I only cut the left/right wire so far.
Another odd thing:
camera comes with RCA wire for video signal and another 2 wires for 12V+/-.
When I tried to connect the negative to ground it sparked , so I thought WTH and tried the camera without connecting that ground wire and all works as intended????What gives on this??
I mounted camera to the right side of the license plate and just modified the mounting bracket.

I'm assuming you had the radio on and the camera on as well so when you touched the ground to chassis you completed the circuit which allowed it to complete the configuration change (cutting the wire). I have no idea if that's how it works but it's the only explanation I can come up with.

Yes camera was on and unit was on when I tried to connect the ground.
12v ground mystery solved:
Camera will work with RCA cable only, but to use some of the cameras options , like reverse image, it has to be connected to 12v +/-. Now the image is correct.
Now, connecting laptop to update GPS. Too bad it does not use SD cards

+12 to the camera makes sense. Glad you got it working.

The GPS does have a microSD card. It's located in the lower right front. There's a little door you pull open and the microSD card is located at the bottom.

I didn't know you could update the software using a laptop.

How do you get the info on the SD card? The toolbox program I downloaded is looking for the device.
Here is a picture from the license plate camera.
BTW, cameras like this come with a 25' non shielded cable. Fortunately, I used mostly 4 strand shielded as the extension.

You will need to remove the microSD card from the radio and using an adapter plug it into the computer that has the Toolbox software. If you have the Toolbox software open and running as soon as you plug in the microSD card the program should recognize it.

Be sure and back up your card when it prompts you.

Also pay attention to the message that pops up after it is done updating the card.

Thanks for the info, I really thought you had to connect to the Jensen.
Updating now. All I got with the unit was the wiring diagram, no manual (not that I would read it anyway)
