Try to find some LVP that is 8 mm thick (measured without the already attached backing on some products). If there is no attached backing, you would use very dense foam, they sell along with it.
I can't imagine using 4 mm, since I used 6mil before and did not like its performance. They snap into each other, like Pergo style flooring.

They say leave a little space on the edges for expansion, but that applies to bigger rooms and not narrow hallways, like in an Airstream.

Since our floors are not insulated, have you any thoughts regarding an underlayment/pad that would help with the cold floor in winter? I am leaning toward LVP as well but since I’m currently replacing subfloor due to water damage, I’m hesitant to use a material that would trap moisture.

Regarding insulating the floor, has anybody tried insulating material to the undercarriage of the Moho? I’m thinking aluminum faced polystyrene glued and screwed onto the belly pan

The material attached to the LVP is padding and not really meant to insulate the flooring. Could it trap moisture if the floor is totally sealed, sure. But I would never seal the floor of an Airstrean trailer or motorhome. I would want it to breeze and absorb/transfer moisture if needed. Mold and mildew happen if moisture can not escape.

I have enough mineral wool on hand with a plan to do just that. I haven't gotten around to it, been a mild winter, had other priorities.

Aluminum faced poly would be way easier (and cheaper) than the semi flexible mineral wool, but it's flammable. Not what I want 2" from my exhaust with 70 mph winds whipping by.

Flammability...good point. The mineral wool board looks like a better product if adding under the vehicle between frame outriggers. To do my entire floor space would add about 200 pounds and cost appx $500. Any thoughts about insulating layer above the subfloor? Wouldn’t want anything too thick or heavy. My front runner is Pergo Gold floor underlayment.

Going up from the subfloor poses challenges

When you go down, it's currently mostly wasted space, and you get an easy 2" of it

Going up from the subfloor requires redoing the whole floor, and you wouldn't want to go to thick, but I'm sure it's doable. Even the little padding under carpet was way warmer last winter than my current uninsulated vinyl floor.

If you plan to replace your furnace, do it while the floor is out! Once you install an extra-thick floor, you'll have to mess with the cabinets in order to service the furnace, because it won't slide out anymore

Hmm, what's with the dual range? I thought the gear vendors was just a bolt on overdrive to reduce the rpms.

If that thing let's you increase or decrease the rpms and can be combined with the 4L80e od then you could probably climb the Himalaya's!

That looks like a US Gear set up. They are out of business but the units live on. I believe they were available as either an underdrive or an overdrive unit.

The picture seems to indicate it has over AND under drive. Was the US Gear setup based on Laycock components?

I think it was a sliding gear type of trans rather than a planetary gear with cone clutch like the Laycock/Gear Venders. Don't quote me on that as this is really hurting my old brain.

The U.S. Gear Dual Range is the only American-made, electric-operated auxiliary transmission in the industry. It has the heaviest GVCW rating (35,000#) and is the only auxiliary transmission available as either overdrive or underdrive.

Last I checked, yes! Austin is right at the edge of the Texas Hill country, plenty of steep grades to try all kind of gears. I drive over this bridge almost daily, pretty flat, huh?

I have a US Gear in my rig; unfortunately it's just an underdrive. Just make sure when switching ranges that you preload the unit; apply power, hit the switch to the range you want, then let off the gas to allow the unit to complete the transfer. Changing ranges with unit unloaded will damage it.

My unit is also lubricated by the engine oil system, so no oil changes to the unit itself.

US Gear is still in business, but no longer manufactures under/overdriven; they make toad braking systems.

A lot tougher than a Gear Vendors.
