Its been a while since I have looked back there, you may be right. Do you think that panel is glued to the abs plastic surround?

Restoration Update 2

Well things are certainly coming together now, as you can see we are probably about 2 - 3 weeks from completing the "Living Area" Restoration.

Looking good. Are you using a domestic fridge or is it a multi-power source version?

I hate to impose on your adventure but I have been following your post and was wondering if you have the time to help me on what to look for when buying a 1979 24' Excella motorhome. My son-in-law found one on Ebay in Florida starting at 8,500.00 and he will be about 20 miles from it when he starts back home from the Daytona race. The owner sent his address and phone # so he can come by and look if he wanted to. It has the 454 engine, 77,000 miles and tires are good per owner, the body looks descent. It looks like you have dove head first and have what it takes to find the bad stuff and your help and any other owners would be helpful on what to look for. Thanks Jim

Well, I can certainly add my two penny worth, but it will be the blind leading the blind.

Gregsch,

Is their certain areas in the floor or roof area to check for soft areas or leaks, anything that might be obvious when driving or idling, any mechanical problems that would be a concern. Don't want to buy a pig in a poke. You can PM me or post anything here for others to see. The body and interior looked descent for original on ebay. Thanks Jim

Since we are talking about your son here, start with the stuff that would be likely to cause a wreck or fire: old tires, old brake components, old fuel lines. Otherwise, approach it like an old Chevy truck, which it is. Anything that hasn't been rebuilt or replaced is likely to cause problems.

The cockpit floors under the sliding windows is a good place to check for soft spots.
