The journey begins....

Well, we are now in the process of getting a 95 Classic 360 TD! It looks to be in great shape with all service records and the current owner recently serviced it and replaced the batteries. Couldn't pass it up. We'll fly to OKC and pick up for a leisurely and hopefully uneventful drive back to California. We plan on going full-time in a about 6 months, never been in an RV, let alone driven one, so why not throw in a diesel to make things more interesting? I love it.

We'll put new rubber on it before we head out and are looking at Goodyear G670's 225/70R 19.5 and get it aligned. The tire discussions make my head spin so I'll go with a name brand, monitor the pressure and hope there's something to this karma thing. Plan on putting on a TPMS later on.

Got my Good Sam ERS in place, just in case.

I'll pack some basic tools, and a change of undies.

Maybe I should read RVing for Impulsive Idiots? Any book suggestions?

According to Google Maps we'll be on I40 for 1213 miles with a couple day stop in Santa Fe. Any recomendations on places to stop? No we won't be staying in motels along the way. At least that's the plan.

We're very excited to be joining fellow 'streamers. I can't imagine another RV group that has so much in common and has built up such a community.

BTW, I want to thank Fred for his website. I posted a wanted ad a few days ago and the seller sent me pics a few days later. I may not have seen the unit otherwise or would have had to jockey with other buyers as he was getting ready to list it on the same site. So sorry Fred, you're out his $25 bucks. I'll make it up to you.

Do you see a red X?

So I have a picture loaded into Picasa on the web. I copy the URL to the Attach Image box and viola! A red X! Wanna see more?

So on our way back to California we plan on a stop at an RV park in Newport Beach. We first saw it in 2004. At the time we had just left a religious cult (sounds like lyingtology) and were getting our lives back in order and essentially starting out all over again. We would take walks through this park at nite and were really struck but the great vibe there and seeing the people hanging out, looking relaxed. Sort of filed this away in the back of the mind. Fast forward 6 years, looks like we've got life back on track, kids are now out of the house and doing great. We're going to spend my wife's 50th birthday at that park in the new moho that represents the next great leap in our lives. It just all seems so fitting. It almost seems magical how all sorts of events have fallen into place since we decided to go full time about 2 weeks ago. We can't wait to see what this new adventure brings us and no matter what it wil all be worth it.

I don't want you all to get the wrong idea that we just do things on a whim, not that there's anything wrong with that, kinda keeps things fresh and exciting. We actually did start out planning on getting a popup trailer that our Miata could pull 4 weeks ago. So really this idea has been marinating in our pots for a long time, at least by our standards.

Our last two trailer purchases were "On a Whim"

Have fun on your adventure.

BTW, you should look into coming to the Aulmapalooza, at the Airstream factory next year. We went this year and have already signed up for 2011.
Great time with fellow Airstreamers, learn a lot of stuff, and make new friends.
