we had a very "rural" and "rich" lunch, with "sausages", "Kartoffelsalat", pork chops and all you can imagine in Germany, we drank just ONE bottle of cold Riesling-wine, but, as you may see, this bottle worked well...!

We will pass through Switzerland, Freiburg and the Black Forest before skirting up through Germany (and avoiding the French tolls) before heading home. Please PM me with any recommendations. I am not that familiar with the German side of the French/German border. Happy travels.

Oh my dear!!!!
You are entering one the nicest area of Germany and France!!!!!
Forget about the Freeways in France, use the "Route National" (RN) or the "Route Départementale" (RD).
This bring's you to the "real" french side of life!!!
In France you'll find a chain of (independend!) Restaurants, called "Les Routiers". These restaurants are ALLWAYS at the "RN" or "RD" roads, NEVER at freeways. There is a book for cheap money available, called "Guide Relais Routier". It has an english spoken section as well, you can use it as "tour guide" like the fabulous "Guide Michelin".
You will see and taste the "true french" kitchen and meet "real" french people. It was invented in the 50ties for truckers and travellers, many closed (😢😢&#128546, due to the freeways, but you still have HUNDREDS in France. (Avoid to stop and dine at freeways, as allways this is expensive and mainly bad...!)
The daily 4 to 5 course menu in a "Les Routiers" Restaurant is between 10 to 12,-!, often inclusive wine & coffee!
They have a round sign, red and blue with white font "Les Routiers"
If you see there at lunchtime many Trucks, check. If you see a lot of vans from "EDF" (french electric works) ir "GDF" (french propane works) or "Poste de France" (french mail) it will be for sure great! Those guys work regional, THEY know, where to eat.
If you see many dutch or (sorry) british trucks, choose something else.
Then it's mainly cheap, but often noisy and food can be "lousy"...😳😬🙄
I lived and worked in France for a while, i NEVER had a really ad restaurant, but OFTEN wonderfull food & conversations!
If you are closed to the german-french border, try to visit COLMAR. See the cathedral there, also SÉLESTAT and the cathedraly
You'll discover the "Isenheimer Sanctuary" build in the years 1500 + something, made by Tillmann Riemenschneider. He was the BEST woodcarver ever. In his period of of life, people did not understand HOW a human could do this and quickly called him "devils handmaiden"! (at the end he was amputated his hands as penalty... !)
A sad but true story! As you may remember, i am a woodworker and carver too, as i saw first time THIS, i was intented to change my job...
NEVER i can do this!
The region of France close to Germany and the black Forestis called "Elsass", a very interesting part of France. It was un the "dark period" of Nazi-Germany part of Germany, then it came back to France.
You'll discover FANTASTIC (!!!!!!!) wines like the sweet "GEWURZTRAMINER", which matches PERFECT the wonderfull "Foi gras". Also taste sone of the "SYLVANER" with a "CHOUCRIUTE GARNIS" (a typical Elsass food with A LOT of meat and sourkraut!)
If you are not too far away, check MOLSHEIM, the town where ETTORE BUGATTI has his plant, building the fantastic BUGATTI'S.
Few miles further you'll pass MULHOUSE. Go there and visit the "MUSÉE NATIONALE DE L' AUTOMOBILE". this is the formal "hidden" car collection of the Schlumpf brothers, NOWHERE in ghe world you will see more BUGATTI cars!!!!
If you are willing to go more into Germany, visit BADEN BADEN. This is a very, very nice and cozy "luxury town" in Germany with a water source, you could take a "cure" there...!
If you are gravelling into the black forest, forget about buying a "CooCoo clock", they come mainly from China....!
Have a safe trip!
(P.S. if you tell me WHERE exactly you are, i'll try to give some guidance. I know "a bit" about France...🙄😜🇫&#127479

This is a typical sign for a "Les Routiers"

This is just an "illusion" of a "Les Routiers" restaurant, we celebrated my birthday back in october 16th. In a "french Brasserie style".
See the red & blue sign backwards, you will find it in France!!!!
Bon Voyage!!!!

The red & white "Borne" is a "souvenir" from the N7 in France...🇫🇷👍🏻😜!
This is the road from Paris to Menton in the very south of france. You may compare it with the historic "Route 66" in Amerika!

Hey, Boom Sounds!
If you are willing to stay on the german side of the border, rather then in France, you should definitifly stay a day in Freiburg. The cathedral there (Freiburger Münster) is a very impressive monument of the gothic period!)
Let me know a bit about your planed itinery, where do you get back to England?
In Calais, or via Belgium (Netherlands?). If you stay on the german roads in the south, you may enter after leaving A5 the A61. You will pass SPEYER, also WORMS then. Both are age-old towns with i pressive romanic cathedrals, the region arraound SPEYER is called "PFALZ". Well known for it's Wine and typical rustic gastronomic Offers. The people there are friendly and you can cruise the "DEUTSCHE WEINSTRASSE", rather than the freeways. If you are in the area think about "NEUSTADT a.d. WEINSTRASSE", or "EDENKOBEN". Very cozy and very (!) typical! Have a glass of "Scheureb, it's a semi-dry white wine, very popular. If you go more for sweeter wines, taste "MORIO-MUSKAT"!
Maybe you can update us, where you are in the meanwhile!
By the way, did you buy your rig in Duisburg, at "Classic Caravans"???
Saw ut advertised a while ago. Great shape to cruise little villages for sure!!!!

Do you remember the "repro-monument" in TRIER? This is the village, where they found the original in 1850, Neumagen was a "roman military camp" before, hundreds of these monuments were found there.
A very nice "stop over"! My "bikers" went further, i took a -short- break and relaxed a bit in the shadow next to the river!

Oooops!
I was wrong! The next stop was not TRABEN-TRARBACH, but BERNKASTEL-KUES. Also a "collective town", one side is BERNKASTEL (left riverside), the other is KUES (right side of Moselle)
Very, very touristic, very crowdy ...!
I arrived there a bit stressed, had some "tranny-issues" on my way to Bernkastel. Also it was close to impossible to find a legal (!) spot to park Bangles. Each carpark was forbidden for RV's, the valet park service refused to handle Bangles (i refused to give the guy the keys...!)
At the end, i took a spot at the travelcoach tourbus spot, the most expensive parkground in town, but very central!
While checking tranny oil (filled up i quart...!) and checking for leaks with turning engine, i made a big splash and was very quick surrounded by "picture taking" tourists! I had to answer their questions about "Make", "Gas or Diesel", "Year", "Gasmileage" (oh my god, that much gas consumption...), short i was a bit stressed. One of the tourists mentioned in perfect "american slang" : Hey, that's not made in Germany! I confirmed with a smile, then realized, it was an american guy, living in Germany! Once i told him, we bought Bangles in IA and picked her up ourself there, it raised him a big smile!
He came from Iowa! I deeply regret, that i not changed our adress, but with these tranny issues i was a bit "unrelaxed"... 😳!

Bernkastel-Kues is very nice, the old town also, but we were about stressed, because of this "tourist-invasion". We decided to leave not too late and my "bikers" wanted to do some more miles.
I had to fill up propane and check for a place to stay over night.
We decided do stay at a "normal" campground....!
We arrived at the Campground and were "shoked"! Fully booked, a noisy and crowdy place, no shadow or river-vieuw places available and for Bangles (exrea fee...!) and us as a family we had to pay 62,-€ (!!!!) a night, located in the "last row"., AC hook up only 6 Amp service, Dumpstation with extra fee! We left imediately... !
Checked our tourbook and found -a winery- offering spots for RV's!
Directly next to the river, AC hook up included, cold white wine for sale! We payed 12,50€, all in, the spots were amazing, even a bit hard to reach with Bangles...!

We were a step away from the river, with the vieuw in the wineyards!
A quick dinner was made in bust 15 Minutes! Some Pasta with Tomatosauce, Cheese and some fruits! Simple, but great!
See the wine i found, while doing shopping in Luxemburg...!😄🍷👍🏻Click image for larger version

Was a great evening, we all were glad NOT to stay at this crowdy campground. Everything could be perfect, but some "surprises" next morning will raise-up...!
Stay curious for now!
