My understanding is that the tag axle is the same as a trailer axle. New backing plates with all of the brake components should be available at numerous places.

I replaced mine year before last. I think they are just the 2"x12" trailer brakes. I replaced the entire back plate assembly's including shoes, magnets, etc. One thing though... Check with Airstream, I think they have now come out with self-adjusting units. That would be WAY better.

It's really good to have them working. Ours were inop when we got it as well. Now that they work correctly, the braking is much improved. You have good tunability with the brake control to match them to the chassis brakes and load.

Yeah went to out of doors website found a bunch different ones. I will let my repair guys know. I do want them to work. They are on there for a reason. I also tow my jeep behind it so I need all the help I can get. I drive back and forth to NY visit my family often and plan I driving this now that I have it.

Spoke with my rv repair place. I gave them the okay to replace all the brake parts on my tag, even the bearings. They are going to replace the brake controller as they said there was no voltage coming from mine. None the less they will be working.
