Surging Cruise Control

The HT502 is in and seems to be running well. Looking for answers to a surge problem with the Rostra cruise control. Had a new one installed a couple of years ago. It's always been a little wonky - slight surging sometimes, not working infrequently. But with the new engine in, it's now unusable. Accelerating at least 10 mph when engaged and then going down the same. My mechanic has tried everything he can think of and talked to a technician at Rostra. Dip switches changed, lowest settings, new wiring, etc. He's thinking a defective unit now, but can't get one for two weeks, and of course we are leaving for a trip asap.

Looking for any help or ideas.

Thanks!

How is the speed read on this unit (through computer or reading the speedo cable). If it's the speedo cable have them look at that, could be just as simple as lubing it up, may sound crazy but I had a friend once where his cruise was doing the same thing and it wound up being a speedo cable that needed to be lubricated. Other than that check all the connections etc and the linkage (binding?)

It could also be weak speedo head magnets.👍
