Spark Plug Wire-Heat Boot

Ours is a 1990 345 with a 454 and stock exhaust manifolds.

We were lucky when we got more than one year use out of a set of plug wires because of high heat situation we all have in this area.

I did a tune up today and found three wires had heat damage at the plug end and I'm sure they were routed safely when applied last year.

So I put these insulating boots on another new set of wires today. Found everything at a local hot-rod shop. Keep you posted.

Those are the wires we have been running for the last 4 years. Really big wires and heat boots.

Well, It's been over a year, time for spark plugs, so it was actually the first time I've been in there to inspect those plug wires, boots, etc. mentioned in post #1.

I was able to re-use the plug wires as these showed absolutely no signs of heat damage anywhere. Have to give credit to the plug wire heat boot as they definately did as advertised.

Can you post the part number of the boots please.
Also what size and type of plug wires are you running Rob.
What should the wire routing consist of? Are plastic spacers used that fit into the cam covers or clip on somewhere?

I'm also very interested in the plug wire boot covers you are using!

On my 83 310 and my 28' Argosy, I had lots of problems with burnt wires, but when I put new headers on, and eliminated the old cast iron exhaust manifold on the 310, the problem just went away. I am trying to remember the brand.. they are made for chev 454's with high loads and the P30. They are large and get the gases out fast, and ran a whole lot cooler than the old Cast Iron monsters.
