Replacing The Chair & Table Area w/ A Dinette

Hi, I've always wished that my 1981 280 had a dinette (that turns into a small bed) instead of the chairs and folding table.

Have any of you in the classic motorhome group ever replaced the chairs and table with a dinette?

No, but I have removed the dinette in my coach and replaced it with coach seats for my three children. I would be prepared to sell it, but the problem is that it is in my garage in Oxford.

I can tell you that it was connected to the subfloor by a small number of tiny screws which would have been ineffective in a major collision . The facing made of oak is quite nice, but the rest of it was very basic hardboard covered in fabric matching the rest of the coach. I think you could probably knock something up which would be a reasonable match. I can post some pictures if you like.

I took the dinette out of my 280 because it was too small and uncomfortable for normal sized people to use. I actually meet another 280 owner like yourself and discussed trading the dinette setup for his chairs and he was happy to do so. Unfortunately he sat at my dinette for a few minutes and decided the chairs were the better set up.

I ultimately bought two 34.5 chairs from Brad and built my own wall cabinet and table. The 34.5 chairs are larger than the 280 chairs and the fit is snug but much better than the dinette. There are just two of us and the dog so your situation may be different but spend some time in one of the original dinettes before you decide.
