Recommendations for side mirror replacements on my 310

Hello everyone,

For quite sometime now, I have toyed with the idea of either (A) replacing just the side mirrors on my 1983 Airstream 310, or (B) replacing the entire side mirror assembly. Being the 3rd owner, I do believe I have the original mirrors.

If you have done this, please respond with what you did, the part(s), and the cost. Maybe some photos??

My considerations are cost, design, etc.

I replaced the original mirrors on my old 310 with remote control Velvac mirrors. It wasn't a straight forward change due to the sloping sides of the motorhome. Most mirrors are designed to mount to a vertical surface as found on the square box motorhomes.

Starting at post #7 I show how I mounted the Valvac mirrors. I custom made the mounts so the mirrors would mount vertical. The one drawback to these particular Velvac mirrors is they are too tall. The driver only gets to view the lower half of the passenger mirror due to the angle of the cab.

I installed Ramco mirrors on my Argosy. The Ramcos were shorter and worked out well. The advantage of the Ramco mirrors is the mirror can tilt side to side due to the way it's fabricated. That allows the mirror to sit vertical.

I bought both sets of mirrors off of ebay. I don't remember the exact prices but they were a lot cheaper than buying new.

I just replaced mine on our 310 with Velvac mirrors. purchased them from Mill Supply $91.80 each. 714579LH and 714580 RH. They are not power or heated. Much better than stock ones. I stayed with the original mount to the body. Pictures show how I did it. I did all the fab myself so can't help you with cost on that.

That's a real nice solution for replacement mirrors. One nice thing about Velvac mirrors is the arm mounts closer to one edge than on the Ramco mirrors which allows for shorter arm extensions.

Wish I'd have thought of that for the 310
