Pulled the trigger

After 2 years of lurking here and actively searching to buy one of these things I finally have an Airstream Motorhome. I drove it 900 miles to its new home this past weekend with very few issues. I bought it from the estate of the original owner who must have loved this motorhome very much because it still looks new.

On the drive home I could smell fumes from the engine compartment. Not exhaust fumes but under the hood kind of fumes. I checked the doghouse seal and it looks good. I think the smell was coming from the dash vents. How can that be? What should I look for?
I will have many more questions soon but I want to start with the important ones first. Oh and it is a 1992 350LE. Steve G

What a nice looking rig - congratulations.

Sorry, but I don't know anything that would help you on the odors.

Welcome to the Forums!

Can't help you with the workings on the MH, but had to say it is one really nice looking rig!! Any chance you could post some pics of the interior?

Congratulations and welcome to the forums. I'm sure someone will come along with an answer very soon.

It is titled as a 92 but I think it really is a 91. I don't think they made a 350LE in 92.

Thanks for posting the inside photo. That is one nice looking MH you've found. The "Pride of Ownership" factor is definitely illustrated by the condition. Enjoy.

I have a 1992 350LE and it doesn't have a "molded" spare tire at the rear.

Very Nice

They were named a classic at the factory and they are more of a classic now.

We did the same thing last August. Looked for a long time and then drove home a 91 350LE. We were planning a trip to look at one in North Carolina last summer. Is this one from that area.

No. I found this in Georgia. Thanks for all the kind responses to this post. I think the fumes are getting into the cabin from a hose from the heater box to the vents on the dash. This weekend I will try to replace them. Now on to fixing other little problems like a drive line vibration at 55 mph that smooth’s out at 60 mph and comes back at 66 mph. Any ideas?

I had a similar vibration and it was the u-joints they didn't look worn but I took them apart and there were wear marks on the torque side from the bearings. I replaced them and it cured it. Also check the hanger bearing at the same time.

I can move the rear carrier bearing around a little but it is suspended in rubber so I'm not sure if that’s normal movement or not. I may replace all the u/joints and both carrier bearing just for my piece of mind. I checked the price of the bearings and they are $20 each. Not too bad. Don’t know about the U/joints yet.
This thing is bigger than my house!
