What can I expect for fuel usage out of a Onan propane 6500. Approx. gallons per hour?
Pete
Who cares? The propane Onan is the most efficient gen set on the planet. Are you thinking about six months on the hard? I've got a "tee" into my system just in case I need to plug in a tank.
I was told about 1 Lb per hr. But I don't know for sure. I put a kit in 3 months ago but have not finished the rest of the project yet so i have not tried to start the thing.

Depends on the Model (and age of the unit), elevation, condition of the unit, and load. You can access specifications by picking your model from this page: Cummins Onan
The gasoline Onan 6500 watt unit can run from about half gal/hr to one gal/hr depending on the load connected. Propane has about 80% of the energy per gal that gasoline does, so it will take about 20% more in gal/hr than on gasoline. I would approximate 3/4 gal/hr of propane on average use. If you want to do a real test on your unit, get a 5 gal tank, connect it to your rig with the normal load you might have, run the generator until the tank goes dry. That will give you the best real time figures.
My genny is smaller than yours - but my Yamaha 2400 runs about 7 hours on a 20lb tank of propane. Not a big load - AS refrig, house refrig/freezer, chest freezer.
