Overhead Storage Bins

85 345 Classic
Are replacement overhead storage bins available? We have a couple that have developed cracks (these are the plastic type wtih roll up doors).

If not it seems to me that glassing the inside with fiberglass cloth and epoxy might work as fix, has anyone experience with this?

not these type bins---you are referring to the overheads? There was a lot of discussion on this a long time ago on ther forum, including plastic welding and using fiberglass, etc. Many cracked due to temperature changes and vibration.
Mine have smaller cracks running down form the lights to the wall area. I stopped the runnig by drilling a small hole, then I patched with plastic filler. It worked, but does not look great as the color of the filler is not quite matched.
I wantedto zolatone the cabinets , but i think i will wait until I can better repair them and then do that so they all match.

The nicer cabinets are the wooden ones from the upper level 345 that don't crack, albeit they weigh more.

Last winter there was a thread started where someone was replacing thier bins. I thought I had it bookmarked but did not and tried searching the thread but was unable to find it. I too young for dementia so it must be out there anyone remember it, better yet who di it and how did it turn out. I remember in process pictures but never finished pictures.
I have been thinking of facing my bins with a thin oak laminate.

Hi Jeff we also have an 85 345 and ours has a few cracks, the largest is over the dining table--I think maybe from being overloaded?! Ours has always been a California coach so has not gotten too cold. We run a brace from the table to the bin (extendable squegee!) while we travel to avoid further damage. We have considered running a turnbuckle from inside the bottom of the cabinet to a roof support but have not explored it further. good luck and keep us posted

Swebster was building new cabinet replacements for his 345. Looked like a good project.

As for fixing the old ones, the only method that made sense was removing the cabinet, fixing the crack from the rear by use of fiberglass ot some other filler...then sanding the front clean and repainting. The zolatone or a paint that will adhere to that plastic is the key.
It frustrates me, because the removal of the cabinet is no easy task. There are two sets of lights wired there amongst other issues.
I had considered removing them entirely and going for the open look, since they don't provide that much storage, but then I would have even less storage than we have now which is minimal. So its a problem.

Thanks everyone, good to know that there is a source of information out there about these motorhomes.

We are working the issues out of it but nothing is big, it drives good, and looks great imho. Wish these bins were replaceable instead of having to mess with repairing them.
