Our "new" '89 345LE

Hi all,

I'm finally getting around to sending out this "birth announcment" (or maybe "adoption announcement" is more appropriate).

Last month, we sold our 1961 Airstream Bambi and bought a 1989 345LE Classic Motorhome.

This was a huge departure for me. I have always been fond of the tiniest Airstreams and I loved our Bambi dearly. But, the family is growing and the Bambi was not. It was time for a change.

I have to admit, I absolutely love our motorhome. I know it's not vintage yet, but it completely suits our needs as a family. We can finally go somewhere without completely filling our living space with stuff.

We went from a '68 Overlander to an '89 345LE, haven't regretted it for a minute...older sometimes means relishing the creature comforts you are afforded...congratulations on a great move and a great vehicle!

So at what age do we become vintage?
Congrats. I love your screen name. I bought a 1987 345 in June and it has been in the shop for about 90 days. I get it back tomorrow!

I think the car guys figure 25 is classic. Vintage? Not sure.

One thing I can say is that the coach is a beauty! What are you doing with all the extra room? From a Bambi to a 345 is quite a jump. I bet you guys feel like you've got room for more family...... er...maybe not.

So does anyone know where you might score the landing light pods that they put on these coaches? I'd love to add some docking lights for those late night back in places I find.

WHOOT! 2 more years on the '87 classic is a classic! I guess that makes me vintage though.

I've been vintage for a few years(ok, decades) now...25 is the magic number for trailers...guess it's the same for rigs...134K miles, 5-6 mpg, peace of mind...I can wait...

Hi all,

Thanks for all the great comments on our new 345LE. I have just finished updating my website with some new exterior photos and interior photos, too! Sorry I don't have photos of the bedroom and bath area yet. My wife was showering while I was taking the photos. I don't think she would have appreciated me coming in with a camera.

This past Sunday and and Monday, we took the 345 to Foxborough, MA for two nights of U2 concerts at Gillette Stadium. We stayed at Normandy Farms Campground. (www.normandyfarms.com) I can't say enough about this beautiful campground. It was very nice and so was the staff. I highly recommend it.

Thanks! I'm certainly proud of it. I will say it didn't look this nice when we bought it. I've spent many late nights cleaning every crack and crevice. I just posted some pics of the bed and bath areas, too.

Do the different color stripes on the 89 345LE mean anything?

Mine are the maroon color and yours are blue.

Apparently, the blue was only offered in '89 while the maroon was offered in '89 and a few other years. It didn't indicate a specific trim level, but it did affect the interior color scheme. I really kike the blue stripe on the exterior, but I wouldn't mind if my interior was a little more neutral. The blue is fine, though. It feels like 1989.

Our '89 LE has blue...don't know the specifics as to why...the '89 was the last of the species, so maybe it was a choice...???Whatever, the coach is a classic...wouldn't trade it for the world...oh, wait, it IS our world...mike

Hi guys,

The 1989-1992 ranges came in either burgundy/grey or blue/silver. My 1991 250 has the blue/silver colour scheme. I've never seen another one but there are a handful of red/burgundy 250s . Incidentally, Airstream did make a few true classic models in 1993. In fact, one of the last ones ever made was fitted out with 240v kit (in the factory). These appliances were imported from Europe and that coach which was a 1993 red/burgundy 250 with factory 6.2 diesel and 240v appliances. It was then exported to Germany. The client was (apparently) the conducter of the Wolfsburg National Orchestra...............a little known fact!
