Optima AGM Red Top start Battery Install

Our Mechanic installed a new Red Top, 800 cranking AMP. I think ? and now I wonder if the GM Alternator will be able to correctly charge the AGM battery.

I know I read some Opinions of the Optima but I can not find the information now.

Thank You for your Input

John

Hi John,

That battery is going to like to stay charged up and as long as the regulator is working correctly on your alternator and can supply up to 14.5 volts when all systems are running, lights, fans etc.. and maintain 13 volts under normal conditions you should be fine in my opinion.

Thank You Airslide

I have the coach back in the storage with the shore power charger on so I will see how she cranks tomorrow.

I also want to install a Mini Starter if anyone has a recommendation, and supply source.

I see Hitachi from 50. on E-bay to 300. at Jegs and Summit-racing

and Amazon.com

Yeah, me too. I aquired a bunch of used yellow caps 9 years ago & a pair have been working great in my Suburban, & 3 in my 59 Ambassador ever since. They haven't given me one bit of grief.

I did find the issue.

A Loose Ground wire Bolt, Bolts. Both ends were Loose, the bolt into the Block on the engine. and the Nut on the Bolt on the frame.
Cured the , Hard to crank when Hot issue also.

as simple as that.

Just as a precaution. I also ran a ground from the starter mount bolt back to the battery ground on the frame.

Double Protection.

Good find. So often its a ground problem or connection rather than a component.

The hard crank when hot is mostly a heatsoak on the starter issue.
