We're too thick blooded to handle the heat, we'll go to Flag, where the temp is about what we have in the PNW right now.

Mike,
Thanks for sharing the awesome narrative. Unfortunately, it took a tragedy it bring it on. I hope that things go smoothly from here on out.

Yup, we just put 400 miles on Bess today, we're down in east central Oregon at a KOA in Culver. She ran like a bandit, all fine,no noise, oil pressure, temp good, used no oil. I like the new design turbo, quiet and stronger, better boost. All is well.

I did learn that just because a tire shop's equipment will handle a 19.5 inch rim doesn't mean that it can handle truck tires. Big O put some serious rash on one of my Alcoa rims when it jumped out trying to get the old tire off.

and a "Bravo" to your mechanic who stood up and did the right thing!

he sets himself apart from so many, not just by his words, but his actions, too...

Yup, a thousand miles later, in Beatty, NV, I just called him to tell him we've not burned a drop of oil, pressure, turbo boost and temp is fine. I also thanked him for stepping up to the plate.

Nice to hear all is well, but advice given by member about oil analysis should still be taken.
Be careful, we are traveling without MH this trip and so far have almost been wiped out by tire carcass(gator to truckers), and idiot in van that wanted my lane. If we were in the MH it would have been a disaster as the Fit has room in the lane and slows faster.

I just saw this thread—what an adventure! Did you get the bottom end inspected for excess wear? It might have been better had the mechanic not been your friend so you could not feel bad about wanting him to pay for his mistakes—sending you off with no oil pressure was a worse mistake than putting in the filter upside down in my opinion. First check to see if it is the sending unit before driving the thing. I had a sending unit go out in a remote part of Newfoundland on an SUV and even though I figured out what it was right away, looking it 0 pressure intermittently was nerve racking.

Seems like you got back south without anymore scares on I-5 too.
