New paint for 345

Streamers,
We just got back home from dropping off our 345 in Elkhart, IN for new paint.
The old girl will come home with a full new exterior paint job. I decided to ditch the clear and go with base coat/clear coat. Silver over all with charcoal in the normal areas. They will also reseal all windows and seams.
We should be able to pick it up between Christmas and new years eve. They will work it into their schedule, so we will be able to have it all done for the Florida trip.
I hope to have some "in the works" pictures to post later.
Rob

unfortunate accident-Repair and paint needed

I would like to get some information on who is doing the paint job for you. I had an unfortunate accident with our 1994 360 classic MH and need some body repair to the right rear side. It roled backward down a hill off my driveway while I was under the dash. I wont get into that now, but I need to get it into a shop and was thinking of taking it to Jackson, the MOTHER SHIP, and leave it there to get it fixed and at that time get a full pant job on it. This thread cought my atention and I would like to look at other options. I am including some evidence of what I did. Tom

Hi Rob!

Sounds WONDERFUL! She will be so beautiful you won't be able to stand it! Do you mind sharing what the price estimate was for the work (or PM me if you don't want to put it out to the world)? We need to do something to our 310 eventually, and I am looking at options. Who is doing the work?

Thanks,
Susan

what color silver?

Guy 99s was done by a PO in ? mercedes silver and looks great. It would be nice not to deal with the clearcoat disappearing and leaving ugly blotches---but we can hope that we will win a lottery and could have it polished !! so we won't go the paint route yet

Susan - We had our '84 310 painted at a local shop that does the UPS trucks (they're Aluminum, too). Pictures and discussion in a previous article on this forum. Costs about half again what re-doing the clearcoat costs, and will last ten times longer. Looks absolutely great (see photo) - Jamie & Susan

Streamers,
Sorry to be so long responding.
The outfit that is doing our work is:
Carstar Performance Collision
1712 Lincolnway W. #D
Osceola, IN 46561 (Norhtern Indiana, the Elkhart area)
574-674-6821
They paint many, many motorhomes. Some old but most new right from the factory! (they fix the factory screw-ups)
I am not able to mention the price, as it is a friend of a friend type of deal.
They seem to do some really great work. Hope ours is one of them.
Bill is the one you want to ask for, great guy.
They are going to take some "in progress" pictures for me, and I will post them as soon as I get them.
Rob

Awesome, Rob! I know you are getting excited!

Did you have any dings or bangs they had to do anything to before paint? If so, what did they use? Bondo?

(Eagerly awaiting the next set of photos...)

There are a few small dings on the rear of the coach. They will be smoothing them out most liklely with some sort of filler. The worst one can be seen in the picture of the rear up by the marker light.
It is starting to get exciting now that I have seen some "progress" pictures.

They pull them out part way and tape them off. This way they can paint above and below the awning without the work of taking them all the way off.

Streamers,
I'm surprised with the amount of work the guys have done since last week.
I love the new look for the old girl!

AWESOME!!!!! Two thumbs up for those guys!!!

Would you be able to find out what they would charge a typical customer for this? Our coach needs help, and I am leaning toward paint as well. It would help to be able to know what to have to budget for!

Congrats! It is absolutely beautiful.

Susan

Oh - one other question: Can you get a close-up of a line of rivets so we can see how they look after paint?
