New Airstream Owner (almost)!
Heading out 13 hours to pick up this sweetheart:
1989 Airstream 325 Classic Motorhome
It's in excellent condition. 53,000 miles. Below are the features:
GMC 454 gas enging with a Banks Powerpack
Interior completely resored with the exception of the carpeting
Sofa and chairs reupholstered
Hydraulic system for leveling jacks rebuilt
Front end joints replaced, including new front tires. Remaining tires in excellent condition
Tow package
New automatic steps
New water pump and plumbing
New rear heater and wiring throughout
New cook stove
New convection microwave
New day/night blinds
As you can see, it's in excellent condition and has been substantially restored to near-factory condition.
Any thoughts or things I need to watch out for? Gonna make a full days drive on day one and don't want to be stuck somewhere. Any particular questions I should ask before heading out?

Joelforeman,
Locate a member of this group who has volunteered to inspect used Airstreams in the area where you are going and have them go with you to help inspect it for you.
Good luck with your new baby!
Ken

Welcome to the Airforums Joelforeman,
I bet its a beauty! If its possible to atleast have someone with mechanical knowledge (not to say you dont) give it the once over you may be able to avoid a breakdown somewhere. Thats a big rig and we cant wait to see pictures.
Cheers Vinnie

If not a member yet, might want to get emergency road service prior to trip back, good sam or add AAA RV plus to account. No matter how good it checks out, that's a long first trip, and you will have enough to think about without breakdown worries. Don't forget back end moves more than car on turns, that overhang on rear demands watching.

I kept thinking about this very same thing when I was about to purchase my Airstream. But, I keep watching the local School Buses around here. Figure that the buses are about the same length as my 345, but seem to actually have more rear overhang (shorter wheelbase). The way most of the drivers of school buses around here drive, I'd venture a guess that the swing of the back end is the least of their worries.
Just an observation.....
Thanks, Derek

My old school bus driver from 30 years ago had a lot of swing in the rear end.

I exchanged e-mails with the owner. I was thinking about it, but we need something smaller.
Good luck!
