Remind me to always say, "she/he". That's how we all got involved with Tin Crumpet & Co, glad to have another nut case along with the rest of us!

Don't tell SteSpot

Shhh....don't tell SteSpot that she is going to have a baby sister.......we wouldn't give up Uwe's creation for anything.....we will just have more to love and another project. Now I know what people mean when they say "they got their first Airstream." It just may not be the last.

And thank you Steve for all of your support and information. It has really helped.

Hey Paula!
Thanks for jumping in!
Glad to help, and lets get your new baby home safe and sound!

Goodness, your Trailer is a STUNNER!

I still cannot get over how compact the 24 looks compared with what we are used to!

Info on the 1982 24' Airstream

I tried checking with Jackson Center about this mystery MH and they could not tell me anything from the VIN but could identify it from the other number by the radiator.....and confirmed that it is a 1982 24' center bath Argosy....not.......they asked for a picture and confirmed that it is a 5 panel Airstream.....so I am assuming this was a special order or a phantom MH. paula

Got a pic ,Paula? I have seen one other that size, it was a converted hearse, that AS made quite a few of. It had a clamshell hinged rear and the vanity plate said "Lstride".

Not unusual Paula...
They could tell me NOTHING about mine, and it too is a custom special order, with no dinette oposite to the kitchen, just a huge closette.

Steve,
I'm available to look at it...love road trips. If you decide to fix it and drive it back, I can see I10 (across the bay) from my house and give you a place to park it on your way back.

Not sure why you're looking at another one...hitting your head against a concrete wall is somewhat less painful, and cheaper.

gmccoop.com is in Lakeland, FL and may be able to assist you. They mostly do GMC moho's but AS's also.

Also AirRowan is in Key West part of the year and realllly knows a bunch.

More information

Yes, it was the 1982 24' Airstream that was listed on ebay. Although I did not bid on it on ebay. I called the guy and flew to Ft. Lauderdale, hired a mechanic to check it out and then negotiated the price. We paid more than we wanted to but less than the asking price. At a minimum, the MH needs new tires, mufflers, exhaust leak fixed, radiator repair or replace, transmission service, differential service, probably brakes and air bags, hoses and belts, A/C, etc.

Our first plan was to have the necessary repairs taken care of in Florida and drive her home but time is critical as we are both still working full time. So we found someone from California making a delivery in Florida who will bring her home on a flatbed probably on I-10 so if you see her give her a wave.

Another issue that had me worried is that the MH has a 15 digit VIN on the Florida title, and it wouldn't fly with NADA or my insurance company. The engine actually has a 17 digit VIN but the State of Florida doesn't seem to know or care. California requires a 17 digit VIN after 1983......so that should not be a problem. You may remember that I checked with Airstream and they show her as a center bath Argosy......so the poor thing is suffering from a major identity crisis that I hope to rectify.

What I really like about this MH is that it feels so huge inside. With no walls but the ones for the rear bath, the coach feels much bigger than it is......I will try to post some photos.....thanks for all of your encouragements. And to answer your questions, yes, we are keeping SteSpot.....she is too good to not.

She may be picked up in Hollywood, FL tomorrow

I will let you know of the progress. Hopefully she will be on her way. I will post progress as I know of it.

I am greatly relieved to find out that the 15 digit VIN on the title should not be a problem registering in California. They required a 17 digit VIN starting in 1983. Actually the motor has a 17 digit VIN but the Florida title does not.....it is missing the first 2......that was making it hard to get a report on NADA and getting insurance.....I have a feeling that this is just the beginning of the issues we will encounter......

Thanks for all of your support and encouragement.....

PS: Does this look like a center bath Argosy to you?
