I SEE HER!!!I SEE HER!!!...Oh, wait...that was a tanker being towed by a jet ski...but I'm watchin'...since I'm on the west side of AZ, a guesstimate on CA arrival time might help...I am NOT going to watch IH 10 for hours(already been doing that from the slow lane), but I will ...WAIT!!!WAIT!!!...NOPE, that was a jet ski pushing a tanker...

Not sure what time but he is hoping to clear Texas and NM tonight.....is that possible? But you now know it is a white truck being pushed by a jet ski and an Airstream MH.......he may be in Indio, CA by tomorrow night....his home base. paula

PS: he told me he is charging extra for all the spies I have along the way. Rebelstand saw her in Weatherford, TX this morning...

I received this update from the hauler today but I was at my grandson's water polo game in Malibu and could not post the photo....he was near Phoenix this morning....and, yes, he has a white truck. It is possible I will see him tomorrow......yes...

And Rebelstand actually reported a sighting of the motorhome.....we met this family when we were in Oklahoma City this summer and have kept in touch....they are traveling the country with their children and dogs....and vintage rig.....cannot believe they actually spotted our new motorhome...(check out their blog)......paula

Looking on the Airstream.com website, they show that in 1981, the 28ft motorhome had 19.5 tires. There isn't any information for 1982. Next available link for tire size is 1984, and that's 19.5 as well. This ol gal would look great in a set of Alcoas!

Ok, I kept 'diggin' on the Airstream.com website. The only place I see anything about a 24 footer Airstream motorhome is from 1979. It DOES show that the 24 footer had 16.5 tire size. Didn't you say that yours has 16"?

Yes, she has 215/85/R16 load E M/S currently. Thanks for the link....as I have said before, Airstream thinks this unit is a 24' center bath Argosy......it has a rear bath and is made of aluminum with Airstream badging.....I wonder if someone special ordered the Airstream and they used the stuff they used on the Argosy....motor/chassis, etc.

1979 is the first year for Airstream motorhomes. Only Argosy before that. Only Airstream after 1979. With yours being a 1982, it kinda makes you wonder what year it actually could be, what with Airstream 'saying' that it's an Argosy. Maybe with all of posting our VIN #'s, as well as all of the Argosy motorhome Forum members posting their VIN #'s, we 'might' be able to figure something out???

Airstream would do anything you wanted for a price!
Mine is a perfect example of that...

Its possible that it originally had 16.5's, and with the availability of those being tricky, its easier to swap to 16's as I have actually done with my Dodge Van.

Paula, I'm with Bill (navyspook) on tire replacement costs. I've found Cooper tires for $175 a piece, but wondering about with the Cooper's being so inexpensive, would I be getting my money's worth, or would I just be better off spending the money on Michelin's.....

The dealer keeps asking me how much I plan to drive the MH......perhaps he thinks we are buying this to park it...and the tires are important because failure is costly on skin repair........and I want good tires.......so are Michelins overrated? And while we are on tires, how do you check the pressure on the inner rear tire? Guess I need to buy a Pressure Pro tire monitering system for this MH as well......perhaps Santa Claus will bring one. Paula

Paula, tire choice is complicated. I just went through this myself. First and foremost ALL tire dealers will try to sell you the tire that first off they have in the back room and second that they make the most money on. Don't let anyone tell you different. You are going to get opinions that swear six different brands are the best. Bottom line, don't buy Chinese! Michelins are at times over rated. For cars, I like Michelins. I got 80k miles on my first set on my Explorer (after dealer replaced those Firestones). And replaced with the same. Just put a set on the Jetta as well. For motorhomes I truly believe Goodyears are the best tire you can get. They have two models for motorhomes, 670 and 647 with the 670's probably the better tire.

With all that said, I put on a set of Sumitomo tires. I wanted to go with the Goodyear's but they would have been about $2600 for six and the Sumitomo's were $1800 out the door. My Motorhome sits at my ranch property 90% of the time so I decided to save some money, the difference paid for my new air conditioner. I have to say that the Sumitomo's handled just fine on my 700 mile Yosemite trip and so far I'm not disappointed in not getting the Goodyear's.

Tire choice has probably been the hardest choice for me yet. Decide what brand you want and then shop around. You have a million tire dealers down there in So Cal..play the game with them. Always get the per tire cost from them and the mounting/balancing/extras cost per tire and the out the door cost.

The inside tire has the valve stem coming thru the outside wheel opposite the outside stem. You need a special air chuck to fill them both. This and a gauge for checking are readily available at truck stops or truck dealers. Sal.

All tire dealers will check your air for free, they'll grumble about crawling under, but that's the breaks. I had the extenders for a few years and removed them when I found them chaffing. I like Goodyears, being full timers, we get around 80K out of the 12 plys we run.

that if you don't know which end the screwdriver is, you shouldn't be buying a MH....well, I know that much but not a lot more so please be patient with me.....and if you are wondering where my husband is in all of this.....he is not real interested in adding the MH to our stable anyway.

We have BF Goodrich tires on SteSpot.....and I think Keyair recommended them as well....BF Goodrich Commercial T/A All-Season.....anyone put these on? Thanks for the advice. Yes, I am aware that they try to sell you what they have.....the place I am going is not exactly as tire place so he can order whatever we ask for....I just want to do the research before buying....thanks, paula

So glad to hear your view on Goodyears...mine came with 8 new ones. After I saw what the PO had paid for them, I hope we get 80K out of ours. I wiped them down with Formula 303 and they look much better. Hope it keeps them from drying out as fast, alond with the covers.
