Progress

Well, I haven't posted for a while because the motorhome is pretty torn up....a lot more than we had planned to do......

The shower faucets were badly corroded gold.....and the one where the the shower hose comes out would not come out without taking the whole shower out...so that is what we have done.....ground out the rivets and the whole shower is out......now finding replacements for the round shower handle trim was a challenge.....seems as though the RV industry is much smaller now and options are not as wide....found a marine one (Scandvik) from Sweden. Special order.....

Also, decided to replace the cook top and microwave with a single gas range......not so easy to find...Atwood and Seaward......first ordered the Atwood (Special order 2-3 week delivery). When it arrived it was damaged (from Florida) packaged in just a cardboard box.....crunched on the top rear corner....so I decided to order a Seaward (3-4 week special order) but it is built here in Whittier, CA and I picked it up today....nice range....not damaged in freight.

So, now we have all the faucets, sinks, soap dispensers, etc so now it is time to paint the bathroom and get working on the quartz countertop for the galley and the bathroom sink....lots of fabrication....

Since I have to order a whole slab of the countertop, we are going to use it under & behind the toilet, between the shower and toilet, on the credenza top and the portable table tops......

Still have not driven it since the master cylinder and hydro boost was rebuilt....need to make sure the brakes are okay. It is good we have a spare rv. paula

Okay, Stephen.....you want to see the down and dirty? The pic on the left is of the bathroom shower pieces we removed because we could not replace the faucet which was corroded gold......the pic on the right is under the shower. There was a rat's nest to the right of that plywood piece.....nice. paula

Shower pieces before and after.

The rivets were drilled out and the shower pieces removed and sent to a paint shop.....the results are amazing.....shower is not yet riveted back in as some connections to the plumbing need to be made...those are painted rivets in the shower pan and some other stuff. We painted the shower pieces white and the walls and top cap a light gray. Am keeping the sink base but putting in a new stainless sink and quartz countertop from the same piece of the kitchen galley.....the faucet is a Scandvik from San Diego Marine Exchange. Dash and Dashless

Had to remove the dash to get the cab airconditioner working....was not exactly my plan.....we were holidaying on Michigan Ave in Chicago when I got the call that the dash was out and since it was out, did I want to paint it? So any shopping that may have tempted me in Chicago has been diverted to painting the dash and ?????? Remember if you give a mouse a cookie, he is going to want a straw......p

I have been reluctant because the progress has been so slow.....and it seems as if we are destructing the whole darn thing......I was only going to do a few things......so instead of going on a cruise.......(not really boat cruisers anyway).....we are fixin to cruise down the 405 or east on the 10 or north on the 101......and at 7 mpg, perhaps we will just go to Malibu....not that that is a bad place....Malibu RV Park is a hoot. p

And we get 6 mpg...there is a shower faucet designed around a venturi delivery system that makes the shower feel like it's giving you twice the delivery...an amazing discovery for us, and when you boondock in the desert for a few months, it's a nice thing to not have your mate open all the windows, turn on all the fans, and sleep outside...we go to the dump station outside Quartzsite, AZ, unload,, fill up with water, park next to the water station, take as long and leisurely shower as we want, redump, rewater, and go back 'home'...as soon as I can figure out how to carry a water bladder on a 1996 Nissan Maxima with a sunroof, our interruptions in desert life will immensely decrease...getting to where you want to go is the pleasure...arriving and being able to stay is the realization, and returning is the anticipation...HOW CAN YOU LOSE WITH THESE PROSPECTS??? Fun travels, minimal problems, and enjoyment...even larger problems mean that you were headed SOMEWHERE, and that just beats the hell out of sitting at home, wanting to go...use it, fix it when need be, but USE it...it's not there for anyone's appreciation but yours...impress, if you so desire, but if you don't take it down the road, why did you buy it? We broke down 4 miles from our home-without-wheels on a 1200 mile trip, but still got there...ya know, receptive wallyworlds, truck stops, rest areas, some Cracker Barrels. and flat pull-offs on the side of the road will do just fine...I find that kinda picking up the nearby trash, returning carts, and spending money in these places seems to somewhat negate the folks that will unhook, lay out the BBQ grill, roll out the awning, put out the lawn chairs, and otherwise act like they have some sort of imminent domain...a little respect goes a long way...I always ask if I can park for the night, and while many will say they can't be responsible for our security, they do so with almost a wink...6 mpg is tough, but free nights make up the difference...ever notice how many RV parks are located close to RR crossings or airports...or major highways?...ok, off the soapbox...for now...m

Derek,
I don't have the name on-hand, and the moho(currently referred to as the furnace) is about a mile from here...I'm relatively certain that a request from the boss will require me to go bake myself soon, again, and I will try to remember to retrieve our paperwork folder, so will have that info, soon...I believe it cost us about $70 at the RV big tent in Quartzsite, but it has been as pleasing as the solar panels, controller, and LEDs...also comes with an on/off valve for when you just want to get soapy...your water consumption from the shower should be cut about 50%...m

I told you to post the pics and not worry!
I know I am not the only one who has to rip stuff up and out to make some forward progress...
I was telling you how repair put me in reverse so far, I have not got back to the point I started at yet...

0/ Original start point... Replace the freshwater tank.
-1/ Discover soft floor under tank. Cant repair/replace until leaks sealed.
-2/ Discover leaks by watching stripped interior in the pouring rain.
-3/ Replace and reseal upper marker lamps.
-4/ Repair, modify and reseal rearview camera.
-5/ Repair refurbish and reseal tail lamp assembly.
-6/ Discover leaks in rear window, polish and reseal.
-7/ Discover leaks in areas close to many exterior skin joints.
-8/ Strip, polish, prep and reseal all skin joints on rear cap.
-9/ Check watertightness of bedroom, all good so far.
-10/ Discover aged plastic piping to and from original needing repair.
-11/ Buy flooring, New carpet, Pex Piping, joints and tools to repair.
-12/ Discover broken drawer, and cabinet over rear furnace....

I have done so much... but not got back to the floor and tank replacement yet!

So, I have discovered that owning a Vintage Classic Airstream Motorhome you have to go thru the negative 12 step program!

So, dont feel bad... know that its encouragement for the rest of us!

Perhaps the Oxygenics? They have been referred to before in the forums.

I got a brushed nickel finish one at Amazon recently. Like it very much. As mentioned in the reviews, the hose that comes with it is not very good and smells. I already had a good Delta hose, so was not a problem for me. Camping World also has them on their website, but more expensive.
