My 1985 290

Here is my airstream arrived in france !!!

I found it thanks to the announcements of this forum, and a friend in the US took care to make the purchase and put it on the boat to bring it to france.

The mechanics was reviewed before leaving the USA, now that it is here, at home, I will take care of the interior cosmetics.

I had a moment of panic when I arrived in my street with the motorhome, I live a small village or the streets are not wide, but all is well, we succeeded quite easily to return it in front of the house.

I only have to read all the topics of this forum to succeed in diagnosing the small breakdowns that I have to repair.

Very nice Steph27.

There are a few MH in Europe now, you should take a look at joining the Europe unit of WBCCI, you may find some near neighbours!

Thank you for your messages. I have already approached the WBCCI EU, I will of course register. This allowed me to understand what the red numbers meant! I do not have the MH manual yet, my friend has to send it to me. I will need it to understand how accessories work: heating, hot water, water pump ..... For now, I have a problem with the batteries which must be badly connected, because I am obliged to put the motor contact to have the lighting in the MH! I have to take the time to familiarize myself with everything

Congratulations on your new baby, and may you have many happy miles.

I used to dream of shipping my Interstate to Europe and traveling for a few months...probably not going to happen, at this point, but it was fun to think about.

Enjoy!

Nice one Steph - feel free to get in touch if you need any help or advice on parts etc. We're in Oxford if you ever come to the UK.

You must go check out Perry's place, but make sure you go for their annual party in August, which is great fun.

Bon voyages

Thank you for your message boum sound.

I would love to visit the UK in airstream.
Thank you for your proposal in case of need of parts. It is interesting to know that I can have parts in UK. Are you a professional? A shop ?

For now, I have to solve a small electrical worry, I have to make a contact by hand for the alternator to be triggered. And then I have a specialized body check the GLP gas circuit.

I learn to know my 290, but I love it already

And thank you to write French

I hope you understand all i write, i don't speak english very well and google translate is not perfect

Cool, I'm glad to know that you can help me find the pieces, it's kinda my fear of knowing or looking.

Bottom line is all chassis/engine parts have pretty good availability. The Airstream bit can be more tricky, but hopefully you will mainly need chassis parts. If you haven't already done so, find your Airstream VIN, the chassis Vin, the engine casting number which you will find stamped on the engine block. Have a look at the AC Delco site, key in part by VIn. Do the same for Rockauto, Amazon etc. Sometimes it's best to cross ref parts across sites. GMPartsgiant can be very good for ID'ing and cross referencing parts, but they are pricey, so buy elsewhere. Find yourself an electronic version of the GM Motorhome chassis guide? What year is your coach? PM me your email and I can send you some examples from 1990/91.

Thank you for these details, I put a MP with my mail. Before the mohos arrived in France, I had the radiator cooling circuit, heavy duty clutch fan, calorstat, as well as the brakes: hydroboost and master cylinder The compressions of the cylinders were also checked, and the alternator changed.
Cosmetic interior is easy to do here.
For my research, I look for a mohos not too big (max310), but especially a body in good condition, and a room back I am very happy with the models I found.

Hello Now that my 290 arrived in france I have to deal with the traffic title (gray card in french) To fulfill my request, I must know different weight of the mohos: The weight when the mohos is empty (nobody and nothing on board) The maximum weight of the mohos And the weight I can have in tow Do you know where I can find this technical information? Thank you

Your owners manual, or the list of specifications document from the sale...?

It might be helpful for you to buy a cup of coffee for a friend who is fluent in English, and have them go thru documents and your manual with you.

I would place sticky tabs with labels in your own language on pages with information that you need, which may help you locate things more readily.

Just a thought.

I think you will find it in airstream.com. Look in support, Motorhome section, find your Year and coach. The docs there will quite often show the gkw etc. Sometimes you need to find the docs for the series e.g. 290/310/350. Also, have you still got the sticker with VIN on dashboard, it's also in there. If not, I am sure another 290 owner on the forum can help.

Nick

Ps didn't receive your email address, if you want the chassis manuals, PM me
