Questions
1. 5th digit "S" indicates a commerical unit but this unit is not a commercial unit. Maybe the commercial order was cancelled and the character carried thru?
2. 8th digit "2" indicated double axel. Meaning front axel is solid?
3. 9th digit "3" ???
I'm sure you'll find that most of us can't get those numbers to match exactly in every position. Apparently, Airstream was very "creative" in their assignment of numbers. I mean, they can't even tell us how many of any of these vehicles they made.
Best,

I think the numbering is, as all have said - very confusing.
Looking at WaltL's 1982 310 at 9926 and Alumi-Naught's '82 310 at 9842; It makes a nonsense out of my 310 (10034), (Post 82 of this thread) which was built '82; Sold in 'November '82, but registered as 1983! Perhaps it was actually built in 1981!!

my A.S. No. 1A9BGAR26DJ00983?
the VIN No 1GBKP371C3319317 the lay out is the same even down to the questionable wiring that makes your A.S. 200 approx after mine but the chassis approx 45000 after mine if the number game works. 0

Numbers for your interest with interpretation as I could find below.
Originally sold to Evelyn Harris , Shreveport LA on 24/11/'82 then to Mr. D. Bethal some time mid 80's, then to CA Poche 1997 and finaly to RM Bartko some time 2004, all the latter from TX. I am still hoping to find out more history. (there may be more PO's?)

Hello, Richard T - My '84 310 Limited with the Diesel (Isuzu) engine and BAE turbocharger is VIN 1GBKP37W1D3331176 and has the Airstream ID plate showing # 1A9ADAR29EJ010339. Maybe this will fit somewhere in the puzzle. Please let me know what yoou can read out of this. Thanks.
Jamie
I do remember reading online somewhere what the entire airstream serial# was all about. I even remember that there was a break point, it would seem in the early seventys(not for sure), that Airstream changed the way the numbers/letters were read. This might explane why some don't seem to make since. Perhaps others have read the same??
