Wow! Your 79 and my 79 were just two digits away on the assembly line. Enjoy!

Ok I hate to throw a wrench in this thread, but since the AS portion of the motorhome was really built as a trailer...first....are the numbers just production numbers of trailers, and sequenced as such? Or were the MH's numbered in their own scheme? Just wondering.

Interesting, but there has to be a bit more to it than that.....
Look at the numbers starting with '82 -
9819 - '82 280 MH (Daddy4Bob).....
and ending in '90 -
11239 - '90 345 LE (90345)........
One trend has been verified, there is a progressively higher Airstream Number as the production years increase - that may be the ONLY thing that we know for sure.
8 years difference in the production run, but only 2,420 numbers (units?) difference in the serial numbers......total number of trailers built during those years HAD to be more than 2,400.....but I would suspect that there were not a total of 2,400 Motor Homes produced in that time span......
Anyone have any insight?

1979 24foot classic
Just thought I would let you know that we purchased a 1979 24foot motorhome serial number M24R9V5114. we have the owner and service manuals and the receipts totaling over $13,000 in the last three years. The gentleman had replaced almost everything, then, passed away. Do you have any idea where new outside compartment latches might be obtained, as two have one side broken off? Do you think it will hurt the value if we add power levelers, new hardwood flooring, and new upholestry? Thanks, Travis

Does anyone know if DMV goes by the AS VIN or the chassis VIN...I can't remember which they used but thought both were listed on my title.
If the AS VIN is used for registration...theoretically, a slight adjustment to the last several digits of a VIN could lead us to the result of how many AS were made in a particular year. Does anyone have access to CARFAX?...

DMV Vin #
The DMV used the chassis VIN number on mine. Carfax starts with vehicles from 1981 to present. They also require a VIN number with 17 characters.

Peas In A Pod
Welcome Bob66789!
Your VIN and mine (5181) are pretty close. Our units might have been on the assembly line at the same time. Interesting to see some of the features in your MH. Mine is a few feet shorter than yours, but I'm curious if what similarities there are anyways. Show us some pics when you get a chance.
Hope you enjoy the forums and get a chance to join us in a Forum Rally sometime. Again, welcome.

Could be brothers!
Thank you LeeMo!
Yes, that is very close! It will be interesting to see the list grow!
My unit is pretty much standard like all the others. It's 28ft long, center bath,
with rear twins. I will try to post some pictures soon. I plan on attending a rally someday.
Thanks again,
Bob

Airstream I'm looking at
79 28' Excella center slpit bath and twins in the back
79 M28A95132
I tried posting to the forum about the MH I'm looking at and it got lost in cyberspace. I'm still debating the buy, I can afford it but won't have a ready repair fund for it if I do and I'm not sure just how risky that is.
Off list, I would love to know why people love this motorhome. Where they have taken them-I couldn't really tell with clearance where all you could go in one. If boondocking, how long can you keep one out? Has anyone tried fulltiming in one-if so how many people and how did you handle the small space over time?
Susan

Mine says CPS3793316675 Manufactured by GM. I trust this is the chassis number.
