Limited/Luxury Edition

Hard to say for ours since it is a 1982. What would be considered tricked-out even in the later 80s is probably vastly different from 1981. It does have a built-in separate ice maker and wood cabinets over the dinette but the carpet has been replaced and there has been a lot of additions like wood dashboard. I'm not sure what might have made ours an LE.
We're off to Port Huron KOA today...

1979 24'

Just bought an Excella 24' Airstream Motorhome VIN No. CPS3793309965. I can see the outline of red numbers 2812. Does anyone have any information on this unit? Please add the VIN to list if anyone is still doing that. We broke down going home and hope to get it home next week. Thanks

Help! Need to call the insurance guy back

First, I'm so glad to see this thread!!! We're getting our 81 Excella 280 (FRED) Friday and the seller has two numbers on the title. I may have told our insurance agent the wrong number for the VIN. I assumed it was the 17 digit number starting with 1A9. He liked that. But now I'm seeing that it may be the 13 digit number starting with CPS. Can we get a consensus? And yes I apologize for not reading every message in the thread yet.

Thanks,
Ken

answered my own question

According to this Airstream PDF 1A9DXXXXXXXXXXXXX is a valid VIN. The only real question is the 4th digit. We don't have this - D= Center Bath, Center Kitchen, Triple Slide.

This one is good - http://www.airstream.com/docs/vin.pdf.

The AZ MVD validated mine today.

Just found this one sitting along wide the road near Irvine Ky. Looks like its seen better days. It was parked close to another 310 that was in better shape. My guess is they were using this one as a parts vehicle.

Looks to be a 1983 model 310 - 1A9BDAR28DJ00945.

Is there any way to make this thread "sticky"? Seems like it would be a good one to always be near the top.

Brad

Is anyone collating this information? It's a great start on compiling, but it needs a central organization...I don't have the savvy to do it, but will take direction well if someone wants to see it through...mike

Oh my gosh Brad, what a sight that is! For anyone to 'part out' an Airstream, unless it was in a fire, or totally destroyed, but this one looks like it was in halfway decent condition, no way to know now though. Almost started crying, especially since I'm in the market to find my first ever Airstream motorhome. Thought I'd found a 28 ft in Virginia, but owner is not interested in selling, just interested in watching the motorhome ROT along with his VW Thing, and TWO VW Rabbit diesel pickup trucks. Why do people collect stuff and watch it just sit??? Especially when I've bugged the crap out of him, lol

Sometimes the only thing you can do with a damaged motorhome is to part it out or scrap it. Unfortunately something like the cost to repair a section of outer skin or end cap can far exceed the value of the motorhome. We have a 345 that is missing all of the front sheet metal and windshields along with most of the rear bumper and support area. The cost to fix would far exceed its value. The good news is something like this helps keep others on the road.

Hi, looking at this 28 footer Turbo Diesel. Can anyone help me in figuring out the year from the VIN? 1A9TDAM20CJ009822. I've tried going through this thread, and each time I think I've got it figured out, I get to another posting only to say something else. Thanks for any help anyone can be with this.

Something that you ned to know is there are two "Vin" Numbers..
One is the DMV, and the other is the Airstream number..
Here is how mine looks and it it on the front chassis upright passenger side under the hood...

Note, the Aluminum letter stamped large plate is the Airstream Vin, and the smalled black pressed plate is the DMV Vin...

Your reads:
1A9 = Class A Motorhome
but after that I agree its all messed up....
