missing latches/locks

Still moving along (ok slowly moving along) with Wanda's (79 Excella mh) restoration...one of the latches/ locks on the outside compartment is missing...sure could use some help finding a replacement...thanks for your assistance...joe...

Andy's got them out there. The pirate PO who had mine stripped all the small compartment door latches out of mine. They're pricey; I think Andy told me they're like $55 each.

Are you talking about the small lock tumblers with the latch finger that locks the roll-out bins?

My 79 doesn't have rollouts. Each outside bin has a door that is hinged at the bottom. The door has 2 latches at the top. Each latch has a lock that twists to open the latch when it is unlocked with a key. Wish I could post a picture but, haven't worked out the details of this porcedure yet...thanks for the help...joe...

I'm not sure of the correct terminology, but I always called them "baggage doors". Basically the small doors on the outside of the coach that allow access to the batteries, the rear trunk, the side trunks, for like your tire irons, hoses, chords, stuff like that.

The ones on my '77 are made by Chicago Lock Company, part number 4260.

Andy's got them as the complete assembly, but they're not cheap. Still, at least they're available. Good luck with it.

Look at Your local RV store SOBs use the same locks as Airstreams and they are not as costly as some poeple charge for them in the Airstream World.

I believe what you're referring to are called 'cam locks'. They're quite common and you could probably find them at your local Ace Hardware.

Are you guys sure on that? I took the lock cover over to a Fleetwood dealer and he had a million locks in the back and none of them fit. He told me "...the rest of the world uses this kind...Airstream uses a different one."

I'd be happy to find some cheaper route. I will check Mr. Lock.

I am shure with the Mr.Lock Chicago Locks 4260, but you´ll get a cylinder that looks totally different to the old ones, as it has a "round" key. The housing and the T-Handle looked the same like the old ones on our 1971 Ambassador!

Not shure which part number the Cam-locks have... Does anyone have a service manual to look it up or anything written on the inside/backside of the lock??

Edit 2: What you need to keep from the old ones is the latch that locks the door as the old one is for the depth of the C-Channel... Better post a pic... I´ll be back in a minute...

Ok here are some pics of our new Chicago Locks 4260 replacing the Compartment door locks on our 1971 Ambassador... Hope you can see, that what I mean with the "old latch"... It´s a little rusty, I know...

Thanks for all the help. My latches do not look like the picture. There is a rectangle hole in my cargo doors about 3 or 4" by 2 or 3" with a smaller half circle cutout on the top of the rectangle hole. Not sure if trailers have the same latches as motorhomes. My Excella is a motorhome. joe

Thank you for the photos. This will help me. Your trailer looks like mine. The only piece that I have is the outer housing. I am missing the entire inner part, including the latch. I will get with Mr. Lock.
