MAYCO's 1982 310 TD

I suppose its way past time that I should consolodate the threads Ive started into one on-going ramble. (Takes me a while to catch on eh?)

Anyway, Ive some questions for you classic moho owners. I would like to replace my steering wheel with something similar. I really like the look of a wood veneer of some type but I think for comfort Im going to stay with padded leather. Have any of you replaced your steering wheel? If so with what brand and model? Ive been searching the web and see quite a few options but Im not well versed in what adapters are needed and so forth. How critical is it to stay with the exact same diameter other than comfort? Does a 1/2" or 1" smaller wheel make that much difference? If I buy a 9 hole wheel does that mean it will bolt right up to mine? Any other considerations I should be looking for before I order something?

Thanks as always for your help, ideas, and input here.

Search through Keyair's thread. If I remember correctly, he found an exact match on eBay.

Thanks Mike, we are home for a bit. Just got back from a wonderful 2500 mile adventure. I gotta say, I COMPLETELY fell in love with our 310 during our trip. We had some hiccups along the way but man, what a great rig. I try real hard not to get too attached to material things, but the Airstream..............my oh my its just different. So we wont be going to either rally, not until Lynn accumulates a bit more vacation time. (18 months till she retires wahoooooo)

Thanks Dean Ill have a look and see if I can find it. An exact replacement is fine by me. I like the wheel its just tired and bent, like me.

Kitchen I laminated aluminum over the 1/4" plywood to give the kitchen some definition and ease of cleaning.

Thanks fellas. I still need to play around a bit with switching. Ok in the kitchen area, all lights on, but I might switch the living area to switch half on at a time. Those little suckers are pretty bright. Id like to put a dimmer on them, LED, but that gets a little hinky because of the ground. The way I understand those LED dimmers anyway. I could put two dimmers in, one for each side, that way I would have a dedicated ground to interupt. I think that technology has a ways to go yet.

Looks nice! I've gotta start working on interior projects one of these days. Someday I'll run out of mechanical projects.

Thanks Dave, they are from a company called Dream Lighting I believe. Ordered off Amazon, got a 10 pack and a pack of 2.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They are nice little lights, plastic but packaged well and plenty bright. They even had the ends of the leads soldered. If you use them make sure to drill with a 2 1/8" hole saw (common size because its the standard size for dead bolts) because you dont have much wiggle room for the screw mounted back plate.

Got a real good deal on some 2' x 3' aluminum panels. Used one sheet for this backsplash and added the magnetic knife holder. Wanted to get my knives out of the drawer! A roofing contractor friend has a good size metal brake so I folded the exposed edges for a finish. The knife holder held the knives with no problem going down the road.

What about a sudden hard stop?! I might be a little concerned about having knives embedded in the back of the drivers seat

Sudden stopgood one.

I have a bumper sticker on the front that states; "If you cut in front of me, smile as you go under."

God dang you Mike those lights are just the ticket for mine as well. I have being toying around with what to do with them as the plastic covers are aging and I'm scared to take them out.

How much are you charging for your design work or since you used my stainless steel side beside the cooktop we'll call it even?

Cheers
Tony

You can see how easy it was Tony. Left the OEM fixtures in place, gave me a good fastening point. Then just tapped into the wiring of the original lights.

Mike,

As far as 9-hole steering wheels go I've found two different patterns. I believe the Airstream steering wheels use the Grant steering wheel standard. There is another one that I have found that is slightly smaller in diameter, just enough to make them non-compatible with the Grant's.

I found out the hard way when I bought a nice 9-hole steering wheel off of ebay and then found that it didn't fit the Airstream 9-hole hub. I then bought a hub and steering wheel for my Triumph TR6 and found that they matched the Grant pattern used by Airstream.

Bottom line is before buying a steering wheel verify the center hold diameter and bolt pattern.

Brad
