They had reversed the motor wires to make it go up when the controller was telling it to go down. The mechanical installation was a piece of cake. Got it done and powered it up and nothing happened except the step light came on. Closed the door and the step came down. Opened the door and the step retracted. Cruel joke! Took a while to track that one down. Just replace the door switch with the one supplied with the step. The original step was beat to death because the safety didn't work correctly with the motor polarity reversed. You had to close the door and turn off the switch to keep it retracted. The second owner had beat it to death running it into curbs. It has been beat straight and welded. The gearbox was also stripped.

I'd suggest soldering and shrink wrapping the wires as they are exposed to the road crud. I despise those crimp on connectors with the plastic insulation. I use bare ones with the proper factory crimping die and shrink wrap them.

Being new to the motorhomes scene, I took it the a local shop. Got a quote of $1250 and 2 weeks. Figured I'd use a box for a step. Typed Kwikee on google and PPL popped up with them on sale for $275 with free shipping.

Kinda reminds me of the door hinges being labeled incorrectly. Cruel joke!!
It sounds like the Kwikee brand has the hold on that market? Ill get to them eventually, they look so much safer and easier to enter/exit the rig. Thanks for the information Dave. Your trip north near the lake looked like it was going to be beautiful!

Still have hopes of getting out one last time. My mom's fall has her back in rehab. My dad is fine alone so we might be able get out for a few days.

We love this time of year to be out in the rig. Absolutely beautiful sunrise this morning, low 40's temp wise. These Classics are sooooo gorgeous when the morning sun hits that shiny skin.

Hehehe, ya know, after we hung that up and took a picture, I got to thinking that it just might not be the best idea around here. Especially since its hunting season and probably 75% of the campers here have their guns with em. I took it down after about a half hour!!
. Big baseball rivalry in this this part of the state because we are about mid way between Chicago and St Louis. Those windshields are pretty expensive I hear!

Must admit Mike, more than a few of us up here in the GWN groaned when the kid hit the 2 run dinger in the bottom of the eighth. We were rooting for the Cubs all the way.

Nice to see the coach out and about. We did our fall trip to Cyprus Lake (Bruce National Park); 27' limit, no hook ups and only 23F Sunday and Monday morning. Not the most flattering picture of me as I look to be in the family way but great pic of the girls and the worse half .

Yes, our tow vehicle is on the small size but on level ground she's just fine.

Cheers
Tony

So Im thinking of adding a pair of fog lamps on the rear of the 310 to aid in backing into camp sites in the dark. I suppose I would mount them on top of the rear bumper. As far as switching, Im not sure if I want to try and tie them to the existing backup lights or not. If I switch them on their own I would find a spot on or under the dash to locate the switch.

Have any of you done something similar? Any input or ideas. It seems to be pretty straight forward but have any of you done something simpler or creative I should think of?

Thanks fellas, Mike

Mike, I mounted high intensity LED lights on the bottom of the frame rails at a 45 degree angle and tied them into the docking light switch on the dash on the 325LE. I believe there is a picture in the thread "It's Never Done". My vision sucks at night....even worse if it's raining. I usually wear contacts and my glasses are so thick that when my youngest was 3 years old she tried to set fire to some leaves outside with them in the sun ! I plan on removing the LED lights from the 325LE and re-mounting them on the 370LE over the winter. Regards, Bob

Good idea Bob. No docking light sw on the '82 310. Wish there was, would make for an easier install. If I go with the fog lamps Ill buy a pair of led that match those I installed on the front.

I went ahead and installed these fog lamps on the rear bumper a week or so a go. Just got around to snapping a pic to share. These should do the trick for backing into campsites after its dark. Ive been pretty anxious a few times even with Lynn trying to direct me from outside.

Ran a hot leg from a "battery" terminal on the fuse block to this simple spst switch on the cover panel next to my head unit. I grounded the lights to the frame at the rear.

Now some have said I need to paint that old garage. We stripped the entire house down to bare wood and painted a few years ago, but not the little garage. I tell em Its taken me 25 years to get that distressed look on my garage, Im not going to ruin it with paint now....

I think the new lights will work out, probably prevent an argument or two with me sweetie...

Lynn has THREE DAYS OF WORK LEFT till she's done!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOHOOOOO!
