Kota,
I'm with you. The K&Ns might be great for racing (i.e. keeping large chunks of debris out of the intake) but for real world applications you won't catch one near any of my vehicles.

Got a bit of a break in the weather, in the 30s today. Started to dig in to remove the radiator. MAN I forgot what a PAIN IN THE BUTT it is to remove that grill......GEEEEEZZZZZ! It's off but I sure forgot how hard the bolts are to get to. I need to find a socket or fitting that will make reassembly easier. I think a thin wall socket would help maybe. Any of you have some advice on making reassembly easier? I think I'll use stainless nuts n bolts with a lock washer instead of the self locking nuts with the plastic thing in the nut when it goes back together.

Ahh.....Snap-On 7/16" semi-deep chrome 1/4" drive socket, and an OXI14B migite 7/16" wrench, stick with the nylocks you are using, you won't be happy with the other set up.....just saying, Regards, Bob

Thanks for the advice Bob. Well at least I'll replace all with new. I assume the idea is that the nylocks won't loosen up with all the road vibration and such?

With enough Velcro, anything will stay put. Just saying.

True enough; and on the upside, it comes already in a polished aluminum finish, so you'd never know it was there.........I wonder how many rolls it would take to wrap my exterior?

"Just be happy your 310 has the easy to remove radiator "
Ya riiiiiiight Mr Helpful Brad!
When Ive previously had to remove the radiator I removed and installed it with the frame attached. I think I'm going to try to do something a little different when I reinstall it this time. I'm going to install the frame first, just the bottom piece with the sides attached. Attach it with one bolt per side on the bottom brackets so it can swivel. Swivel the top of the frame out enough so I can slide the actual radiator into the frame and attach the top piece of the frame with it still swiveled out at the top. Then swivel the the whole thing in and attach the top to the mounting brackets. We shall see if that works. That thing is big, heavy and unruly even if you use a jack or something underneath to align the mounting holes.

Mike, I'm wondering where your leak developed. If in the core somewhere, that might justify getting it recored. Since it's so difficult getting in or out.
Putting it back in with a weakened repaired core may be asking to have to revisit it sooner than you want.
On the other hand if the leak is in the tanks, that may be more repairable to last awhile.
If I remember correctly your rig was cooling the engine quite well. So replacing the radiator may seem unnecessarily expensive. Until you think about the struggle of getting it back out sooner than you want.
I had to take the engine and trans out of my Porsche three times this last year to fix an oil leak that could been have done in one go if I had been more thorough in diagnosing and fixing it the first time.
I'd hate to see you go thru that with your radiator, takes the fun out of trying to Get a job done!
Cheers Richard

I agree Richard. I'm going to look at the leak and get a condition report from my shop. If there is any doubt as to the core condition I'll go ahead and bite the bullet. Ive worked with this radiator shop since my teen years so I totally trust their opinion. Awful lucky to still have that kind of small private business these days.
How have you been Richard? Are you down in Florida these days? Where about?
Aloha

Good luck with the radiator project!

Well they repaired my rad but because of where the leak was, he said he did the best he could. We talked for a bit and decided to go ahead and recore.

Hey Mike, yep I'm getting settled into my new place here in Ebro Fl. The property is about 20 mi inland from Panama City Beach. And a world away from the condo resort world of the coast.
I'm trying to work thru the gauntlet of getting the place reclassified to be able to put in 5 or 6 rental RV sites, not an easy task. There is a shed like 45' x 35' shop and a couple of other small out buildings and lots of old growth trees on the just under 2 acres we have here. So a very nice base camp in the makings.
This is a very different area to the central Fl near the Cape where I grew Up.
In a good way. There are spring fed streams in the area, some gentle hills to relieve the total flatness of most of fl. Plus some little towns that the development of most of fl has bypassed, leaving some old Florida feel of yesteryear.
Our place is right next to Pine Log Forrest Service Park, so there are hiking and biking trails with in walking distance. As well as some nice lakeside RV sites in the park.
At this point the permit process is holding up progress on the property. But there is some elec power service and a new well in place. So I am able to hang here in my rig pretty comfortably.
And can offer some hospitality to traveling classic motor home friends on your way thru the area.
Just give me a shout if headed this way.
Cheers Richard
