It's always nice to be in a campground where no one else is around!

Glad to hear you had a nice weekend

I agree Brad, whole different experience. They were having a two day deer hunt (culling) so most of the folks that were there were hunters. If not for them, we may have had the place to ourselves. Perfect weather for a fire and steaks on the grill. Central and southern Indiana is really beautiful.

here's a handy resource - 2015 Fit List

about halfway down the page you'll find a list for "Chevy/GM/Workhorse Chassis 68-07, IFS P30/P32"

Peter, Im looking here. They are Raybestos Professional Grade but Im trying to find the part number in my records. They were rated as equal quality to the Moog brand. I looked in my maintenance log and found that I only wrote down the brand so Im hoping the part number is on the receipt.

The moog K6511 for the lowers came up both in my research and Josephs list.
I am curious if anyone ever the checked your ball joints prior to your frightening incident, which still has some of us shaking in their boots.
The play on the lowers ones is not to exceed 3/32, which can be checked quickly with a floor jack. My passenger side lower is right at or in access of the allowance, so they have to go.

On lighter P30 vehicles I'd accept that spec. I think that chassis is overtaxed in the MH application. As soon ball joints develop some play, they tend to hammer themselves to death at an exponential rate. I'd use the best. A new set should last many years at the rate most of us use them.

I highly doubt they had been checked correctly in quite some time. My bad. I knew they needed attention, they were on the list (nearing the top), but I obviously was willing to drive it on the road. We were lucky, understatement of the year.

Can you cross reference that Moog number somewhere?

Ive done research into the history of my 310 and it goes something like this. Im not sure who the first owner was but there as a foil sticker on the passenger side behind the front wheel that certified the rig in California when built. The next owner was in Ohio, not sure what year he bought it but the rig had 40,000 miles on it. There were telltale signs that this owner maintained the rig very well. They owned the rig for quite some time. In 2007, a family member of mine bought the rig with 119,000 miles on it. He had some work done on it but really didnt know what he had or what he was doing. Luckily, he didnt put many miles on the rig, probably less than 1000 total. He paid WAY TOO MUCH for the rig considerring the condition it was in when he bought it. Just normal things had been let go and needed attention. He passed away and I bought the rig in 2013 from his estate. I didnt really have a clue what I was getting in to but bought it right and never regretted it for a minute.

So, I had no real record of maintenance other than the few things that my brother had done to it while he owned it. (And that was brakes, oil change, a few other minor things)
So everything Ive done to this point has been through my own inspection and learning about the rig through others experience, mostly right here on the Forums. Ive never had any experience with a vehicle of this size, diesel motors, RVs, etc. etc.. I do feel awfully lucky in that I really didnt know how special the rig was when I bought it, having the diesel and the Allison behind it.
So as far as when the last time the ball joints were inspected correctly........I havent a clue.
I should have replaced them before our trip obviously. Lucky, very very lucky.

These are O'Reillys options, both appear under the same part number K6511

They seem to meet and exceed the weight requirements. Did you have both the uppers and the lowers replaced?
