You get such a better view of the country on 36 rather than I70. Not much traffic and the road is in excellent condition. I understand that its claim to fame before the interstates were built was that US36 was the fastest route from Indy to Denver.

Yep, the view is so much better than what you get on I-70 (or I-80).

I would imagine it was the fasted route from Indy to Denver. I remember traveling 36 in the 60s & 70s and the speeds were a lot slower then because it was mostly 2-lane highway. Even at that it was still a nice drive

Safe travels!

Stayed in Atwood KS last night. Funky little park close to 36. You pay at a gas station down the block. They do have 20/30/50 amp service at most of the 9 or 10 sites. Free wifi also, so not bad for a sleepover stop.

The 310 is running like a champ. No issues thus far that Im aware of. This last stretch of US36 has one long hill after another so my mpg is reflecting these long pulls. Filled up yesterday afternoon and looks like we are getting only 11mpg. My boost gauge has read as high as 12 on some of these pulls up hill, cruise control engaged at 63mph on flat road.
Thats the highest reading Ive seen on my boost gauge ever.

We should be in Golden CO by mid afternoon today. We've been good and warm so far going down the road using the dash heat primarily. We will turn on the furnace every now and then. Nights have been in the 30's so not very cold. Still using only two small electric heaters at night.

So far so good. Loving this old rig.

THE 310 has landed! Made it to Clear Creek Campground about 2:00 this afternoon. Not a hitch on the trip out, the rig ran like a champ. Winds finally calmed down once we got close to the border of KS and CO. The last couple hundred miles were easy driving. Kept a close eye on my gauges in the hills of Kansas. There are some pretty steep and quite long pulls on 36. Watched my EGT and my boost gauge closely. On one long incline the boost gauge registered nearly 13 and the EGT 1100. Clear Creek Campground is right on the edge of Golden and run by the city. Its pricey but a great location for visiting family in Denver. Its $30 per night WITH $5 off for Good Sam membership. There are 33 RV sites total and all but three are rented by folks who winter over here.

Great drive out, the rig just purred along. Ran at about 2900 rpm and 63-64 mph.

Nice run Mike, just reward for your diligent work over the time its been in your care!
Nice pics of the stream. Is that at your camp park? Sweet!
Pretty moderate weather so far, nice to get a break while traveling.

The last period in Az before I left the low temps were in the high to mid teens going all the way up to mid 30s in the day. Had to put a space heater under the coach to thaw the pluming and dump valves to drain and winterize it. A little late doing the winterizing I guess but I was staying aboard, with no other facilities available. Three season coach is right.

You Should do your mileage runs on the down hill/ wind trip on the way home. It will feel better.

Wow $25 a night is just over half of the average prices I found on the west coast this summer. Be happy.

Hope you have happy holidays with your family there.

Cheers Richard

The overnight stops were so blah that I couldnt get myself tp share pics. seriously. The creek is about 75ft from our rig. (And the 310 is so filthy from the road its killin me). Ill snap some tomorrow. Parked next to a big ol 40 footer, makes mine look like a matchbox car. Some guy stopped me at our last fill up and wanted to talk about my rig. He says "boy, that sure looks CUTE rollin down the highway". CUTE! CUTE! REALLY!

Cute! Sheesh, I say bad-ass cool, but to each their own. I caught some of those winds across I-70 in MO today. I am very interested in your steering improvements!!

Looks like a great trip - enjoy.

Glad to see someone is using their rig for what it was intended for.

Enjoy your Xmas Mike.

2900rpm for 63-65 mph. I'm surprised at that, I would have thought the Allison would have had a higher final cog than my 475's 1:1, as that rpm and speed closely match mine.

Cheers
Tony

DHC1, front end improvements so far have included SuperSteer bell cranks, steering damper, some adjustment to the gearbox, shocks, air bags, upper and lower ball joints, and new tires. I think thats it so far.

Having fun with my daughter down here in Golden. Tried to rent a car from Enterprise yesterday and apparently the whole Denver area is sold out because of the holiday. Not much luck at other dealers either and sky high rental rates. I got to thinking about when we had topped off our propane at U-Haul on the way in and seeing those regular size cargo vans for $19.95 per day. BINGO! Im certainly not too proud or whatever to drive a U-Haul van while we are here, especially at that price! So we got one and its working out great. (and dont have to worry about hauling the dog around and getting the interior dirty)

Here is the 310 parked next to a big boy

Day time temps in the 30's with sunshine. Man does that sun help to warm the rig up. No furnace needed at all during the day, just the small electric heaters.

Nice touch in the boudoir there, Lynn!
Defineatly elevates it above mere bedroom status.

If I were in Boulder I'd drive down and say hi. The other day I had a Denver layover so I rented a car to drive up and check out the house. $79 for a 5 hour rental. Welcome to ski season. A few weeks ago I rented a car through Hotwire in Portland. $9.99 a day. Taxes and gas, it was still under $20.

Would have been great to see you Dave. We are still kinda cracking up about renting the U-haul van instead of a car. But hey, its worked out great and Ill do it again in a heartbeat.

Got down to near 0 degrees last night here in Golden and had some freezing problem with the water pump. Our fresh water is low in the tank and we couldnt get any water through the pump. Not sure where the freeze blockage was but I put one of our heaters back next to the pump and within an hour or so we had fresh water flowing again. No sign of any burst pipes or fittings so far. Other than that, we have been plenty warm in the rig. We will need to dump the tanks tomorrow, hoping no frozen valves.
