Lateral Arm Awnings

Has anyone considered using the lateral arm awnings available from Zip-Dee Awnings (Awnings By ZipDee) or the Carefree of Colorado 12V awnings available from Camping World (Carefree Of Colorado - 12-Volt Power Awnings by Carefree - Carefree of Colorado Awnings - Camping World) for their Classic Motorhomes? I've read in other threads that some strengthening would be required. Just wondering if anyone has gone this route yet. I really like the look of having no arms down the sides of the RV, but wonder about the reliability and the ability of the Airstream to be able to stand up to this kind of product.

Wow, busted awning that won't close? I will add a set of gooseneck pliers to my toolbox!
Thanks, Derek

Measure, then make them one size larger...ya might consider a couple of bungee balls to supplement the awning bars while enroute to where ever...put them high on the closed bars...just a cheap piece of security...m

bungee balls? is this to keep the awning bars from scraping against side of Airstream?

Naw, the bungee balls are simply elastic retainers that are insurance against that microburst that can remove your awning from the rig...some folks use the plastic 'handcuffs' for their travels, but they are kinda a pain in you know where when trying to disengage...nylon rope would work as well...having repaired my awnings(once on the '68 overlander, once on the moho), I will gladly pay a buck for each retainer once a year...m
