I'm thinkin' plumber's helper...

We, also, replaced the toilet...same leak...we kept the hand sprayer as it uses less water, and is better for...well...rinsing. The valve is prone to holding just enough water to freeze and crack, so winterizing includes bringing forth the vodka thru the sprayer...how many people can say they flush with vodka!!!

I sort of don't get the vodka thing. I mean, a 5th of the cheap stuff costs maybe $10 (in my area anyway). 2 gallons of the pink costs $6.00. I can do my 27' Overlander with 1 gallon. I expect the Motorhome will take almost 2 gallons to do.
We easily get into the sub zero range here in the mountains so I am unsure at what temperature a diluted vodka mix will stay liquid.
I am not sure at what point the eutectics of that mix will allow the water to freeze while still keeping the alcohol liquid and the coeficient of expansion of such a eutectic.
So I think I am going to stick with the pink stuff for now. I did see the very handy 3 way valve which will allow me to quickly flush the solution through. Nice!!!

Well now, here's the thing. The pink stuff leaves this AWFUL after taste. Vodka doesn't.

The pink stuff doesn't sanitize. Vodka does.

Once you bypass the water heater and drain it, it doesn't take two gallons. In fact I use five fifths and usually have a least half of one left over.

I live in Minnesoooota, and I have never had a freeze up problem.

And of course, don't forget the PARTY in the Spring! Okay, just joking. We don't actually drink the stuff. Spose we could though.

I tried a sip...felt like I should have had a grocery cart full of plastic bags and three layers of clothes...not recommended...SAFE, but not recommended...I suppose I could try to flush it with tomato or Clamato juice, but then yer back to that stain thing...

What the heck - I'll try it. I'll save the tomato juice for the spring...

See, there you go. In the Spring just take a glass of tomatoe juice and hold it under the faucet and fill her up.

The thing I like the best is that it sanitzes the entire system with no after taste. Others reccommend using bleach. YECH!!!!

One big bottle of the cheap vodka did the Silver Dragon. I blew out each of the lines with an aircompressor pushed onto the garden hose fill line. Then poured the vodka into the hose and blew each line until I could taste the vodka came out. Still had some of that nasty red antifreeze stuff come out in the shower hot water side with the vodka. Good thing I wasn't driving anywhere afterward. Was a little concerned about the fumes igniting inside the trailer until it aired out. Hey it will be fun dewinterizing in the spring, eh?

I am lucky enough to already have a bypass for the water heater and drain valves and a 3 way valve at the pump. All I have to do is hook up a hose and suck away...

I winterized our Airstream with liquor,
Pumped through the pipes it was quicker.
Used a bucket instead of a shot glass,
While taking advantage of the bypass,
And when it freezes that should fix-her.

We just found this thread. Congrats on obtaining your "dream" motorhome. It sure was a nice looking Airstream when we toured it in Jackson and didn't know the touring car went with it. DG sure knows how to fix things. Hope to see you in it soon. Also hope you had a great trip to Arkansas. Jim & Ginny

Thanks J & G,

It is a beautiful rig. I felt a swelling of pride as I pumped 60 gallons of fuel into her (had to swipe my card 2 times).
And, did I mention that we created a special parking place for her? Yes, we had a load of rock dumped. The driver brought some really nice stuff, not that road stuff that we have on the rest of our driveway. Problem is that the fancy stuff doesn't stick together well and instead of having a nice parking spot, the moho just sinks right in - just like those emergency truck brake failure turnout spots you find on long steep hills.
We are having quite a lot of fun with this Airstream.

Just remember in the spring ....

It's o.k. to drink from the tap...

In small doses....

Do not be tempted to drink the Vodka from the other source.

The nice thing about South Carolina is that even if we have a freeze it will likely warm up above freezing in a few hours, that or I'm headin' for Florida!
