It's Never Done.....

OK, so we got the nose off the 325 on Saturday. Definitely the water pump leaking. did the compression check, I was quite surprised to get the numbers I got...145 to 155. Found out the previous owner had the alternator replaced in Oregon, still had the sticker on it. I scored a brand new one for 80 bucks (Rock City) had the one I took out tested, it was good so I will keep it as a spare. I got all new AC Delco ignition parts, (Rock City). I sent the carburator down to Long Island, a buddy of mine is still in business rebuilding them. I used to use him in the 1980"s when I was a mechanic we had emisssion testing starting in 1980. every manufacturer that made carburators had trouble (Varijets/Thermoquads/Variable venturies etc. Thats all this guy did and he made quite a business for himself. I found all of the original belts and hoses (Gates) and I am also changed the million feet of heater hose going back to the aux. heater under the couch, and the new hot water heater that Atwood finally came through with last week. The water pump is a brand new Napa unit with a lifetime warranty... boy I hope it sure doesn't leak after I install it ! The original oil cooler lines were leaking...I'm having trouble locating them so I am going to have new ones made locally here in Albany. Oh and did I mention the 40 or so feet of vacuum line that I am changing ? Moving to the inside...got the new shower door installed Friday, new toilet last week, new medicine cabinet last week. The new hot water heater I got also has electric so I used the factory Trash Compactor circuit for the wiring.

Love to see more about installation of shower door, and possibly where you purchased shower door. My 345 came with shower curtain, which doesn't work at all. Was looking at HD for replacement, they have the size.....

Thanks, Derek

OK Derek, you need to cut the hole about 4" wider, Lowes is the place to purchase shower door... special order American Standard.

Has anybody ever had to replace the engine oil cooler lines that go from the oil filter housing to the AC condenser. I tracked down the discontinued Delco part numbers but can't locate them anywhere. I'm thinking of making them myself out of teflex power steering line (Russell) number 10 AN 1/2" ID.

Bob, I replaced mine a couple years ago. You will not find replacement hoses off the shelf. They must be made up. I bought some hydraulic hose on line as well as the fittings. I can't recall why now, but two of the fittings where the wrong type. I went to a local truck brake and service shop and had him use his fittings and had him crimp them on.

Honestly, I should have went to him from the start for the hose, fittings and crimping them on. My advice is the same for you. Take the old hoses off and take them to a local shop.

OK, so I am done playing with the factory search light. Cannot be repaired...bought a new one from I Marine with the optional wireless remote so the wife can use it while I am maneuvering. I bought a new heater control valve for the heater core under the couch... It appears that the original one even closed off does not shut the coolant flow off all the way, maybe that is why a few guys complain that it is always warm, even when off. I put 90 degree fittings on the bottom of the front air bags...neater look and better ground clearance. Also routed them together to one fill point... This way they will stay equal and if one blows they will both go down...safer I feel. Figured out how to wire the 325 through the generator circuit for 50 amp service at the campgrounds. I can now run both air conditioners without running an additional circuit to the MOTORHOME. More pictures to follow...

So yesterday I finished all of the silicone heater hoses, both heater control valves (under hood and under couch), replaced roof mounted searchlight, courtesy of I Marine, ordered replacement Electric Air Horns, finished install of kitchen LED TV, replaced front fuel filter and hoses. Started electrical install for rear bedroom LED TV (wall mounted) and DirectV/DVD player, upper wardrobe cabinet installation.Click image for larger version

I got the carburator back ! New gasket, about an hour to figure out where the vacuum lines went, thank god for the original vacuum hose diagram on the side of the air cleaner, cranked it over and varoommmm ! Factory high RPM 1900 , choke off 700, thermostat opened, topped off antifreeze, no leaks, I am a happy camper. I replaced the new R-12 expansion valve that I broke during installation (DAMM), no leaks, and is holding 30" of vacuum, I will charge AC, set timing, and do base idle adjustments next weekend. Waiting for new spark plug wire holders to come from Rock Auto, then new front tires on, take it out of the shop, turn it around and bring it back in. February projects include rear drive axle overhaul/brakes, tag axle overhaul/brakes, rear shocks, shower drain, RG6 cable install, in-motion satellite install, entry door overhaul, hinges, oh....I also found a broken dash heater control cable yesterday ! It's never done.....Click image for larger version

Am I wrong in thinking that the heater/AC controls are a Chrysler product ??? Need to obtain a new heater control cable, from the dashboard climate control unit to the heater control valve under the right side of the hood. 65" long to be exact...one end is broken off. There is a seven digit part number on the cable casing (0483177). Any help would be appreciated.

So now I am waiting for parts, the water system is shut down until i get the replacement faucet from Faucet Direct for the bathroom. The front end is still jacked up waiting for replacement air lines for the front coil spring air bags. I'm going to change the oil again anyway before I let it down, still have to grease the front end and replace the original spark plug wire looms before I let it down. Temperature here is now minus 8 degrees so I am definitely glad I am inside. Purchased new electric roof horns to replace the corroded ? original ones, new spot/search light installed...came with a neat wireless remote control so the wife can use it while we are hunting down our campsite.....seeing that we always seem to arrive at our destination after the sun sets...why is that ??? My hopes for Sunday is to get it out of the shop turn it around bring it back in and get started on the rear end.....more later
