Interior refurb on Argosy RV

Hi folks:

I originally posted this, along with several other questions, under Argosy RV's but guess that's a little too exclusive, so thought I would try a more general forum.

OK, we pick up our 'new' 1975 26' Argosy MH this weekend, and needless to say, we're pretty pumped.

There's a fair bit of work that needs to be done, though nothing terribly urgent, though the final inspection this weekend may reveal otherwise. There are some areas I know are in need of attention, and it is these which I could really benefit from you guys' experience. These areas include:

1.
Retrimming the interior: At the risk of being branded a heretic, we're not that bothered with sticking with the original wood veneer and fabric front on the lockers. Has anyone tried replacing the veneer with something a little easier on the eye such as the aluminum they use on the latest AS trailers? As you can see below, the previous owner has done a nice job with the upholstery, so we want to keep the 70's feel but replace the trim with something a little less tatty.

Thanks folks, we really appreciate any guidance or suggestions you can provide us.

Cheers,

Andrew

Most people won't get as worked up over you re-doing an Argosy motor home, they are considered to be more customizable without being detrimental to the value of the coach.

Andrew,
I think you're safe to make it you own. Recovering or veneering with aluminum can be tricky. Do you have any close up photos of the lockers themselves?

Interior refurb on Argosy RV

Greetings Andrew!

Welcome to the Forums!

If you are considering replacing the tambour cabinet fronts (roll-up doors), the tambour material is available in several varieties including solid hardwood, wood veneers, metalic veneers, and laminate veneers. I seriously considered either polished stainless or brushed aluminum veneers for my Minuet, but decided to go with birch veneer that Arlene Fowler of Fowler Interiors stained with a pickling stain to coordinate with the factory vinyl clad wall covering.

Good luck with your investigation!

Kevin
