Hydraulic Leveler/stabilizer Problems
My 1984 310 has a problem - the springs that kick the leveler/stabilizer jacks up are tired. Has anyone ever replaced these? Where does one find replacements (or have them made). It is an original equipment item, made by A&E (which no longer exists). Thanks for any help you might offer.

You're not the only one with this kind of problem. Our 84 310 also has a couple of the hydraulic levelers that don't want to retract all the way. I've been planning on tackling the problem sometime this spring so if anyone has "been there and done that" I'd sure like to hear about it as well.

310's aren't the only ones...our 89 345...right front leveler tends to drop down enough to activate the "Jacks Down" warning light on bumpy roads...the left front sets at an angle when deployed...good thread to start...thanks Jamie...

Guys,
I have the info on adjusting the levelers. They are adjustable for proper vertical down and horizontal up. I am still in Florida, but will be home this weekend. As soon as I can, I will post the info.

Rob, the adjustment is fine - they are properly vertical when down and properly horizontal when up. The problem is that they don't want to go from the down position to the up position without some nudging. Several years ago we started having the problem that ScrapIrony2 described, and now it has progressed to where they just sit in the down position although shortened and ready to
kick up. My conclusion is "tired" springs.

I, for one, would like to have your info on adjustment....may not be a NOW sort of thing, but the knowledge will be useful...hopefully in the very far distant future...but Murphy is my copilot...

Makes me wonder if each jack has an adjustable switch for the warning light. If I watch the springs work while jacks are retracting they seem to be getting tired on our 345 also. On a few occasions I had to retract the LF after being on a bumpy road also, but it seems that once they get in place they will stay there. I too will be following this thread, thanks Jamie for posting, and Rob for offering.

Ok guys here is where you can get the info you need. Go to HWH Corporation. They make our levelers. The web address is Welcome to HWH Corporation
Go to the "Customer support and technical service" tab on the left. Then click on "Installation and information". This will take you to a bunch of stuff. There is the "Horizontal and vertical adjustment" sheet, and the "Jack retraction" sheet.
It looks like they do have a new retraction spring design. This sheet calls out the normal retraction times and the part numbers for the new springs. BTW, we have the #9000 units.

On my 1988 325 my jacks on passenger side leaks and drivers does not retract all the way so warning lite is on Thanks Jonathan

Took it off
I took all of that leveling stuff off. I didn't use it and it took up a lot of space.
I took off the pneumatic rear suspension and replaced it with new leaf springs and shocks. I saw a guy on the interstate the other day after his airbags had blown.

Do each of the hydraulic levelers have a fill cap? I have one that simply runs when I activate it.

I have found HWH to be extremely helpful. Give customer service a call and they will talk you through diagnosis of your problems.

Guy99 and others - the OE jacks in 1983-84 were made by A&E - that company was bought out by Dometic some years ago, and the jacks are no longer made or supported (no parts no service). The HWH corp is extremely helpful and very nice about it, too. I now have new springs and the darned fool things work fine!
Moral: If you have hydraulic problems go to HWH first!!!
