I think I am still being a little dense guys.....so the sender from a R8926 (which comes already mounted but to a cap that doesn't include pickup pipes) can be removed and fitted to an original type pickup/sender pipes?

I was investigating something similar and had order an 'overstock' AC Delco 25093914 (which is a 0-90 ohm unit but for the later size tank opening) to see if the sender could be switched....my logic being even if it couldn't, then I maybe able to use it complete on a new GM29 tank if needed.

Let me try to help, the Isspro sender is just that , a sender unit.
No cap, no pipes. It has a bracket that it slides on to position it at the correct height for what ever tank it's going in. And a clamp that mounts it to the pipes of our pickup pipe and cap assembly. The clamp is made so that it fits well on the two down pipes we have. The wire then is fastened thru the cap of the original unit to make connection to the wiring going forward to the gauge.
Look closely at the pic, you will recognize the original pickup unit, and the sender unit mounted about mid way down the pipes. And the wire wrapped around the pipes on their way up to the cap of the original unit.

Looking closely at the pic, all of the yellow metal parts are the components of the sender unit .

Thanks Richard this helps.

Part of my confusion comes from the photo on the ISSPRO website that appears to show the (R8926) sender (the version with the correct 0-90 ohm range for the early gauges) already attached to a cap (with no tubes) but with a gasket and mounting screws.



Good to know it can be removed and fitted to the older type pickup.

Ah now I see why you are confused Martin. The unit I got did not have the cap part. As best I can remember. The upper part of the bracket did a 90 degree turn that gave me a way to connect it to the underside of the original cap. Along with the wire.

The reason this whole subject is of such interest to me is I have two tanks, the main OE tank and the custom made rear auxiliary tank.

I will probably buy the Step Van Parts tank and sending unit to replace my OE main tank. The Step Van Parts sender has a 3rd port which can be converted to a generator suction port.

If for $45 I can rebuild the OE sender with the ISSPRO unit then I would use the OE on my auxiliary tank.

My auxiliary tank has a separate sending unit and a separate suction tube assembly. The auxiliary sending unit is toast so I have to do something no matter what.

For the auxiliary tank I am thinking of having the local shop cut out a section of the OE tank where the sending unit goes. Then have them weld that section to the top of the auxiliary tank. The auxiliary tank is 1/2" deeper than the OEM tank so clearance is not an issue. I would then attach the ISSPRO R8926 sending unit OE sending unit in the auxiliary tank. I will also move the generator tap from the old OE tank over to the auxiliary tank.

Sounds pretty convoluted doesn't it But it gives me the configuration I need for a reasonable amount of money.

One think I find interesting is that so many of us are going through tank/sender issues at the same time

I hear you Brad, about all the tank concerns. The main reason I dropped my tank in the first place was to track down the source of fumes frequently present at the back of the coach. I'd thought there was a leak at the top of the tank as there were streaks down the sides near the center on both sides.
Once I got the tank down it became clear that the streaks came from the seams at the midpoint of the sides of the tank. I also found that the float of the sender was shot, fell apart once it was out and being handled. Replaced the floater and felt it was good for a bunch more years

I ended up draining and venting the tank. Then grinding all of the seams and adjoining areas for welding. I had all of the seams welded, as otherwise the tank was in good condition. Once the tank was back in it turned out I had pinched the hose going forward to the engine. So the tank Had to come out again to get that sorted. Then when remounted the tank the gauge was not working, so out with the tank again and on to the Isspro sender available locally.

Luckily the guy that was helping me with this work really pestered me to replace the straps that hold the tank in place the first time it came out. We made new straps with hinges on the end opposite the clamping fasteners. Having these hinges in place makes it far easier to drop and move the tank from under the coach. Which I ended up putting to good use on the following drops. Not so much an issue if working on a hoist, but a big deal if working at ground level.

So for those of you getting into the tank, look closely at the seams, be careful when reinstalling to keep the hoses clear of the cross member of the frame just in front of the tank opening.
And the job of dropping the tank gets much easier with practice.
Trust me on this and don't put yourself thru the ordeal.

Wow! Now that you're an expert at tank dropping maybe you should create a youtube video showing the process!

Looks like I'm not the only one that seems to have to redo something more than once before it's finally right

Some input and info on the fuel sender/feed in my 84...

Unable to get a consistent ohm reading, i blew it apart looking for answers...

Here is the assembly.


The + lug is isolated from the body by this shouldered rubber plug.


I bead blasted the tube assembly, and it looks better!




Alas, the sender is still odd, and I am getting spurious readings from the windings that I have traced to the rivet at the top of the unit.
I think I will need to replace it.
Will the ISSpro unit work?

Oh.... and in case you think this is a "Quality Part"...
Note the telltale clue on how they modified the item for the genset feed....

I considered doing the same thing but I think I like the ISSPRO R8926 option better. Seems relatively easy to install.
