The 6KW onan generator on my 1982 310 is putting out 150 volts at the generator and the ac outlets.
It is blowing my 50amp 12 volt fuses when the generator is turned off.
What does the generator voltage read with a load on it? if it reads higher than 120v you have a problem with the regulator on it. I can understant the jump in voltage when you take of the load but this schould be regulated back to 120v in few seconds. Does your generator have an 220v output? If it does check it. Normaly they take one leg of the 240v for 120v.
It could be the alternator on your generator.
Good luck Russ in sunny and cool Tucson Az.:innoce nt:
If you haven't looked at it, it may be as simple as the governor on the engine needing to be set to a lower speed. They are set to run at a constant speed, and running faster equates to higher voltage.
