Future Classic MHs being built today?

I've always appreciated you awareness of Design, and your comment has got me thinking about something crazy.

Imagining the ultimate trailer to pull behind a Classic; picture this.....

You find a Classic moho donor vehicle such as Brad had, with front end damage. Cut off what you don't need lengthwise, strip it out, attach a hitch to the rear end with the intent of pulling it backwards, and then add a Bowlus style, flip up tail section to seal up the former front end. Obviously a fair bit of work would have to go into modifying and lightening the p-30 frame and drive train as much as possible, but the stylistic continuity and aerodynamics of the wrap around windows up front would be fantastic, and the aero tail would be superb.

Gotta go now, the meds are running low, and I'm late for an appointment with my psychiatrist. He keeps telling me that I'll be OK some day.

Think you can Photoshop the prototype?

Would that make it a four season motor home then? You could even plow snow with it.

Fred - I feel that there isn't a classic motorhome out there today. They all look alike, are made poorly with cheap materials and represent like many products, "a throw away" mentality. They seem to be less about camping and more about trying to duplicate consumer's homes - bigger TVs, more surfaces that don't make any sense for the longevity of things that travel down the highway - tile floors, sliders that will eventually leak, etc. I try to follow the entire RV industry and read recently that a German motorhome manufacturer (Hymer) will soon be importing some of their motorhomes into the U.S. While they are still boxes, their finish and cabinetry is far higher than most what I am seeing at the various RV shows around the country. What made Airstream and other brands mentioned unique, or classic was their unique design - be it shape, materials, or time in history. Somehow I think the RV industry is following the automotive industry of the 70's & 80's - just change the badge and crank out another box. It's a sad state of affairs when all these guys seem to have to talk about is "new bold graphics, more TV's - hey, let's put some on the outside so you can watch outside as well as inside, and so many sliders that you wonder how there is an integrity left that will allow the units to stay together. I searched as Fred knows, to find my classic Airstream (1991 300 LE) and my thrill was recently when at a Camping World in FL, the head of sales came out to admire it. I said that I had paid what one of his new high end class A models would depreciate in one year. He corrected me and said that I paid 1/3 of what they depreciate in one year. The only other "classic" in my book is the VW campers. Jim

You are exactly right. Monique and I stopped at a Camping World and went in the Sprinter Class-C units. We were shocked at the poor workmanship on the interior. Some of the cabinets were already falling apart. Heck, our 1977 Argosy had better cabinets in 2012!

I couldn't agree more. It is the one thing that keeps me believing we did the right thing....

When we got our classic 350 we figured we would be putting about the same amount of $ into it (if not more) than the purchase price. But what we will get will continue to last another 22 years easily. Not to mention it looks really cool! They can have their graphics and large TV's I have aluminum and camp in nice places where there is something better to look at than TV!
