Found a 310, on Kauai, of all places!

It's unusual to come across R Vs of any kind in the Hawaii. So you can imagine my surprise when a good friend said there is one on a property he is thinking of buying.

So I went with him to have a look at the place, he is a good friend and wanted my views about the property, and of course to check out the airstream.

It's a very nice piece of farm land, all planted in exotic fruit trees, garden plots, big banana patch, all irrigated and producing. Sweet.

And there she sat a relitivaly intact 310, clearly it had been driven onto the place sometime in the last 10 / 15 years and used as a guest/ farm hand quarters.

Still mostly intact inside, rear bed layout. Pretty dirty, but useable with lots of cleaning and restore able looking to my eye .

Hard to imagine the shipping cost to get it to a Kauai 4 or 5 thousand I'd guess.
No place to go with it, as there are no parks on the islands for R Vs.
A truly unexpected find.

Cheers Richard

Perhaps this would be a worthy subject for a thread of its own. Far flung and unexpected airstream discoveries, the barn finds of Airstreams.

Richard

I'm shooting in the dark here, but most gassers tended to have the 7.4L emblem along side the 310 at the front. As I don't see it, could this be a diesel? If it is, it would indeed be a very rare bird on the islands.

Cheers
Tony

It may well be a diesel Tony. But do we really want to know?
It will most likely be gutted and turned in to a shell of a thing used for guest quarters.

I tried to let him know that the rear bedroom was a big plus .

No interest in restoring it. Just getting some use out of right there.

I'll keep trying to inform him about the rarity of coach if the deal goes thru.

Cheers Richard

Perhaps this would be of interest to someone wanting to import into Australia or New Zealand, since it's already part way there.

It would be interesting to find out the history, might have been brought to the Islands by a senior navel officer, senior officers seemed to be able to bring all kinds of vehicles with them to stations all over the world.

A couple of interesting points above.
I do plan to dig in to the story and possible outcome if the deal goes thru.

Wow Roscoe are you in Moloaa , or was that an uncanny guess? That is the area where the coach is located. Are you thinking of shipping you trailer to the islands?

I'm thinking of calling the shippers to find out the cost of shipping to the mainland. But the possibility of shipping down under is a good thought that hadn't occurred to me.

I so wish now that I had pulled the doghouse when I was there, but focus was on the property at that time.

Cheers Richard

Too cool, Richard!
If I would be buying the property with the 310, I would consider restoring it as a very unique vacation rental. Can't beat this so unique double appeal

Sure would be interesting to know the history of the rig. Looks like a movie set parked there.

That was where my thoughts went too Peter. Then talking with my brother ( also a streamer ). And he ran with the idea. Bring in some trailers and make an airstreams in paradise vacation park!
Wee, how easy it is to develop someone else's place.
Minor issues like zoning, infrastructure, and finances etc are nothing to worry about. :-). I do like the idea tho.

Mike I hear you, it does look very interesting it this setting. I'm thinking 4/5 hundred dollars for a sunbrella cover on the pipe frame and you are good to go for many years of indoor/ outdoor living.

My buddy is suggesting I plan to come over for a couple of months to stay there and replace floors, clean it up etc.
He was my main crew and dog body, on my boat ( Tevake ). For years, and may be looking to reverse the roles, for his own whip cracking pleasure.

Cheers Richard
