Got a late start yesterday and had to drive straight through to make a reservation at BRB on the Crystal River near Redstone on hwy 133. The leave are pretty much played out east of the divide due to the dry summer. Looks like they are at their peak around Aspen. We will cross McClure pass tomorrow and head to Ouray. I'll post pictures as I can.

A little excitement yesterday in Genwood Canyon. We were on a stretch of I70 with a restriction on 50 mph and vehicles over 10,000 lbs to remain in the right lane. We caught up to some tourists doing about 45. I notice the rear view camera is filled with the front end of a huge Sun Cruiser. As he moves over as my heart sinks thinking he's not going to try to pass is he. Sure enough I can't believe he didn't take my mirror off and I was up against the barrier on the right. I guess if you are rich enough to buy a rig like that, you don't have to follow the rules. Never a cop around when you need one.

Ouray is a beautiful town for sure. Can the Airstream navigate the Million Dollar Highway??

I've made it from Silverton to Ouray and Silverton to Durango many times...don't rush it, use your gears, and enjoy some of the best scenery to be found. m

We live on the south side of the grand Mesa. Fall colors are great right now. I have towed our 28' up over red mountain to Durango with no problems. Just have to take it slow in a few spots.

We've been unplugged for a few days. Camped on top of Keebler pass. A little off roading! Crappy Internet here on Blue Mesa Res. pictures when we get a better link.

I actually like the dirt roads. This thing climbs like a mountain goat. 30 mph speed limit and 2nd gear selected, it runs very comfortably over the 10,000 foot passes.

Pictures

We cut our trip short a couple of days due to a forecast for snow on Saturday. Got home about 2:30 and cleaned up, winterized, and over to the barn tomorrow. After a very difficult summer with family tragedies we were blessed with 8 days of unseasonal weather and hit the aspens at their peak. Spent 4 days unplugged and 3 nights at RV parks in Redstone, Gunnison, and Salida. Crossed Eisenhower, Vail, Kebler, Monarch, and Kenoshia passes. The AS ran beautifully all the way and the new tires were a big improvement to the ride and road noise. I shot over 300 pictures. Here are a few.

A few more

Woke up this morning with about 2 inches of snow. Glad we came home a day early and got things winterized last night. Wouldn't have minded a little light dusting of snow while camping but this time of the year you can get snowed in for the season on the non maintained roads. We watched the weather very carefully.

Nice pix! I went from Durango to Telluride last week. The Aspen colors were great. I was scared to take the million dollar highway so I went around over lizard pass. It was a beautiful drive. I will try to attach some droid pix.

Thanks! Please post some pictures of the colors back east. I grew up in Northern Michigan and miss the variety of colors of the hardwoods. The golden aspens in the mountains can be very spectacular. This is the first season I've really been able to get up right in the peak. Seems like I'm always a week early or late.
