Hi jm2,

I have no personal interest in, or first hand knowledge of the legal/ethical aspects of this matter, nor have I offered any opinions on such. The quote I attached was, as stated, clearly not MY opinion. It simply seems to offer the most logical slant on the rationale behind the JaxedMash modification. I have no idea who owns or controls whatever part of whatever company, and Craig is clearly entitled to do whatever he likes with his list, for whatever reason.

The simple reality is that WE ALL have lost the use of a great tool; a search engine that facilitated commerce and made life easier. Nothing more.

Life goes on. Try to relax.

Actually the complaint with external craigslist searches is that they pound the CL servers and transfer a lot more information than people hitting up their local CL can do by hand. It's just an infrastructure issue. As you can see, there are lots of search engines out there, banging on their servers, and they try to keep after them to shut them down, because it isn't costing those search sites anything, but it's using up the resources of CL by factors of magnitude over what they expect to have to serve up.

I used to use an external CL search site I really liked that served up all the images for ads, instead of having to click on them individually, and they shut that down as well. I was pretty annoyed, but I have to admit, serving up the images for all ads was wasting a lot of bandwidth, versus just serving up the images on the ads I clicked on. Since CL provides a free service to me, I can't really complain about it.

The best iPhone CraigsList app I have found is craigly. I was able to get it for free during a promotion but would happily pay for it.
