It's time to fix up the doghouse so that if anyone wants to see the engine, they won't see all the duct tape and worn out seal material falling off. What do you all use to fix up the motor side of the doghouse? Now that my '65 Corvette is almost ready to take racing, I'll be towing it with the MH. The hitch was upgraded to 5K lbs.

The underside has lost it's insulation. The edges have lost the foam seals. The floor area has lost it's seal also. Where can I get that stuff and are there any suggestions to make it look better than stock? Thanks.

Camping World sells a dog house insulation kit which includes foil covered sound deadener, foil tape, and spray adhesive.

I put off doing mine for a couple of years because I was afraid the new deadener wouldn't work as well as the old stuff. When I finally installed the kit, it was much quieter than the old stuff. My dog house has a rubber gasket on the edges and I didn't find a replacement.

Thanks. I have a CW about an hour away, so I'll go there first. The rubber gasket is rotted out so I'm going to have to fabricate something myself. I'm sure I'll find something at Home Depot or local auto shops. Since the thoing pulls out, I suppose it's easy enough to work on.

I'd suggest you call Camping World and confirm that they still carry the product and it is in stock.

What I did was cut the sound deadening material to fit the dog house in a single piece with minimal seams first. I then set that aside and used the remainder of the material to apply a first layer with more seams, then I used the (relatively) seamless piece to form the outer layer. It came out pretty neat and does a good job with the sound.

Hi - I have replaced the doghouse perimeter seal (side and rear edges where it meets the floor) with good results. Unfortunately I don't remember where I found the part, but the AS 800 parts number was helpful - I do remember that. Don't give up; there is a replacement seal out there somewhere.

Sorry, my friend, that was several years ago and before I owned a digital camera. No photos available. On top of that we have now recovered the doghouse with carpet material to further reduce the noise (it helps!).

I haven't worked on it yet due to the heater core leak that I'm getting ready to fix. Also, I had a propane leak somewhere at the stove area and getting a plumber to fix that too. Before I can drive it to CW, it has to get charged up and driven for smog. But now that Glen has suggested that link, I may do it online! Thanks guys. I definitely will post the results after I'm finished with the doghouse. I have a priority of getting a floated valve fixed in my drag car, since the season is going strong right now.

I don't know but I bet there is some very modern insulation for that purpose. I'm going to do same with mine.

I actually used rigid foil backed insulation that I cut and attached with a spray on adhesive. I finished it all up with foil tape on the seams.

It doesn't have to be pretty.

Mine has held up for 3 years and 60,000 miles.

OK, the engine cover is off as well as the entertainment center console. I will take pictures tomorrow. It seems that someone has worked this before because the driver's side floor (5/8" plywood) is not cut right and encroaches upon the seal area. There's very little rust, so some fresh paint and new insulation will look great soon! BTW, I had to buy a new battery to start the engine for smogging, which passed. The old one was over 6 yrs. old and would not charge any longer. Hopefully the coach batteries last longer. I'm keeping the opening "open" for a while as I'm in the process of cleaning up the engine compartment too. The AC is coming out and I had a plastic fuel filter that was soft, so I replaced with a NAPA metal canister one. There's actually alot of room in there!

Thanks Mary. That sound deadening material has been suggested to me as well. I haven't started the doghouse yet because I'm working on the AC...might replace with a newer Sanden, BTW, your doghouse is much more different than mine. I'll post pics soon.

Ok, well I called CW and they do not carry any engine compartment insulation whatsoever! I'll try going to a local small RV place or online, but the dealer may be the best source. Here's what I working with.

the only places i found the insulation was "ghetto" car stereo installers

they have rolls of it cheap
Rv places and the larger electronics stores did not stock it

I bought weatherstrip to replace the seal around my doghouse ('83 310). Got it from Inland Andy for about $50. Then I found that my problem was just that the doghouse hinge wasn't secure. After I put in new screws I didn't need to use the weatherstrip.

If you want to buy it from me I'll take $25 plus about $5 for shipping...

When I redid my engine cover the interior insul(sim to what is found in the generator compartment)was good so I installed sound deadening lead based material(look at automobile sound equip suppliers on the web)on the top of the enclosure and then put carpet on top of that. I replaced the existing insul in the generator compartment with foil faced heat based insul also.
