Did you install the aluminum brackets?
After being towed to the factory with a broken fly wheel, Airstream gave me a set of brackets to have installed that will presumably reduce the tension on the flex plate/fly wheel. I have asked AS for a service bulletin or other document detailing installation so I can take that to my truck shop to have the brackets installed--the truck shop asked for it, saying it would save them time and me money if they don't have to fake it. I'm assuming this "fix" has been around for a couple of decades but the POs of Silvie were not aware of it--thus my broken fly wheel and torque converter.
Has anyone had these installed? I assume it would only apply to the diesel conversion vehicles and possibly only to the 1982 and 1983 vehicles unless it took longer than that to discover that more modifications were necessary for the diesel conversion.
They are pretty big, maybe 8 inches across, sort of triangular and pretty heavy. They do not have any holes in them yet, they are solid aluminum (or some metal that looks like aluminum). I can post a picture if that helps.
If you have them installed, do you have pictures of their placement? Did you work off a service bulletin issued by AS or did you fake it? I'd like to get this done before any future trips so we can preserve our shiny new fly wheel and torque converter.
Thanks.
