Decal replacement opinions

Love the new 240 but have never been crazy about the imitation wood decals - Can't decide on black or blue..

Blue has my vote. Its a AirStream traditional look.

Picked up a random orbital polisher and 20L of stripper - getting ready to polish..

Before washing I got the heat gun out to remove the decals but found that I was able to remove the wood grain top layer and leave the better looking black behind.

After giving it a good scrub I'm almost tempted to just go camping and leave the polishing for another season..

I think it is beautiful as it is. If it was mine, I wouldn't polish it, but would probably paint the black the same gray as the bottom.

Hi, it looks great the way it is. If you don't like the black, I would paint it blue. Blue and silver seem to go well together. I might even think of painting the area between the tail lights the same color. Looks kind of bare or unfinished between the tail lights and the moldings.

I agree - the decals there were very ratty so I removed them to bare metal to gauge how it would look. I love the look of polished units with no moldings or decals but now I'm liking the black decals more and more and might just keep it.

Still leaning towards a polish though - knowing what it can look like makes it hard to look at the oxidation closer up.

Looks good as is. I'd forget the polish and get camping with it. Polished rigs look great, but then you are always worrying about scratches, sap stains, etc. Easier to maintain the look you have.

Looks really nice as is...
Blue would look great too.

Polishing looks great, but when it looks like this... and you have no real choices... enjoy it!

Returned the stipper and the orbital polisher - filled the tank and the coolers and took off to Birkenhead Lake about 160km NE of Whistler via the Sea to Sky Highway for 3 days of camping.

Rather than take the same cushy 4 lane highway route home we opted for the Duffy Lake Rd to Lilloet which is a transmission killer and an infamously dangerous route - the start is a 16% grade that seems to never end - from there it just gets jaw dropping. While its hugely popular for car and motorcycle clubs I loved floating along on the air bags with huge picture windows to take it all in.

This added 350km to the return trip but the 454 never skipped a beat and the rig was a pleasure to dirve - doubt I held up many others on the route too much either.

I like it

I think the black looks great. Are you saying that if I take the ugly peeling wood grain off of our 24' 1982, it will be black? That would be great.

I don't want to polish ours either......we have a polished 68 trailer and altho I love the polish look......I am not looking for another upkeep on this motorhome--although don't hold me to it, I have been known to change my mind.

I am going to order the rubber that goes in the rub rails......have been told it is dark grey not black. paula

If you also have the brown/black theme yes you can simply heat and peel off the top brown layer of decals - not a time consuming task really.. then wipe with paint thinner to remove some of the adhesive left behind and it looks pretty good.

I'm having a metallic tree line silhouette made to apply over the black which I hope turns out well - will post up a pic when I get them on.

We had our 345 painted 5 years ago. Had the stripe and lower area painted the same dark gray. I hated the wood grain as well.
I hate polishing aluminum even more!!!

Looks very nice. Did you paint the top part silver? It is hard to tell in the photo. I have been concerned about what to do because I also hate polishing aluminum......or rather keeping it up......I have a few boo boos where the PO met something along the way and it is not terrible but not so nice either.....I was wondering what painting it would look like. p
