I bought the one in Georgia that was on eBay. I plan to take Thanksgiving week to drive across the country with my 12 year old daughter and 12 year old niece to Sacramento, and of course take the southern route. Any advice is appreciated:
Any prep to the motorhome that might be necessary.
Any trip recommendations, i.e., passes to look out for and places I should see, or rv parks we would enjoy.
And anything else I need to consider.
I will probably have the seller drop it off at Dick Gore's RV World for a checkup before I arrive.

Tires, belts, hoses, fluids, and maybe a Good Sam membership just in case.

Absolutely, Peter! I plan think to take the most southerly route through New Orleans then come up through Houston to Austin.

Go 'around' Houston.. unless you like the 'interstate'... and traffic... even late at night!

I-10, to Lafayette, North to Opelousas then 190 West... better roads... some 'towns' where you can stop away from the madness.. will take you to Temple, Texas... then on to Killeen, Texas... and on West...

But, if you just want Interstate, stay on i-10... 'shortest' route... That time of year only rain might be an issue, rarely does it get 'freezing' in Austin...

How 'handy' are you with mechanicals? Backup plan to 'fly' the ladies home should you get 'stuck' with a breakdown?

If in Austin area, Peter had great place to land...and is 'good people'...

I inspected one in Ft Collins several years ago. It was a nice machine. On his way home, the buyer was flagged down be a driver that told him he had smoke coming from under the chassis. The tag axel brake was dragging. He was told it's a common condition from sitting. I believe it was resolved with cleaning and lubricants. Make sure they thoroughly check out the whole brake system.

Have the RV center flush the water system and check it out. Make sure the black and grey water system all works and its ready for the trip including hoses. Fill the water and put deodorizer in the poo tank. Might as well make it fun trip vs a ferry trip.

You can take either 290 out of Houston or keep on going on IH10 to Columbus and take HWY 71. Both are scenic drives, with 290 being the easier one to enter Austin during rush hour.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Peter, Greenbeans is adorable! The girls will go nuts over her/him. I got outvoted on taking the trip over Thanksgiving. The family wants to be together so I will have to schedule a different date. I am anxious to get it home but I have the 345 to restore, and my Cutter to enjoy. One thing I thought of is the short days of winter cut down on viewing stuff, so I might try to do it over Spring break. Maybe better weather and definitely longer days. Summer is ideal but I can't wait that long to enjoy my new rig.

Which one in Georgia did you purchase? I won the ebay listing for the one in Savannah and drove down to pick it up. After looking at all the items that I would have to fix I decided to pass on it. Whichever one you purchased I wish you a safe trip and happy travels when you take it home.

Dang that's tough to hear!
Ryker, what sort of inspection has been done for your deal?
It's tough being able to shop worldwide, but the distance can make it hard to really check out things quickly enough for an auction.

I bought my 345 in Fla. From Hawaii. It belonged to a member here, so had considerable history to look at.

I showed up, gave it a good look over. Headed out three days later for Az. Ended up having a great travel experience . Including a fun stop over in Austin
With Peter and his charming wife.

I sure hope you adventure is a good one too!

Right now Gunter is wishing he hadn't posted.

Ryker, there are many reasons and circumstances that Gunter(Gunner) passed on buying your coach. You can reach an age and time in your life when you want to enjoy, as opposed to working on projects. Maybe Gunter reached that point and decided that the coach was a bigger project than he was expecting; it doesn't mean the coach is a bad buy.

Goodluck with YOUR coach...although I would send Gunter a PM and ask what he saw, that you maybe missed. Having a second set of eyes is allways good and maybe your able to arrange to fix something BEFORE arriving to pick it up.

I almost walked away from the 94 Diesel Classic I now own. It was a lot of work and cash to get it running, but I sure love it now!

SebasSF, I would LOVE to find a diesel classic. That would be the holy grail for me. I'll cut my teeth on the rigs that I own now until a diesel comes around that is not priced sky high. My '99 diesel Cutter drives like a dream, and has a beautiful interior, I just do not like the same-as-everybody-else exterior.

Isuzusweet, I feel the pull into the asylum! This is how I do things though, get into something and fall deeply. I got into Porsche 968's, and now I've owned 5 of them! I whittled it down to one uber rare, magnificently dialed-in example. I had amazing help, and made great friends through the 968 forums. I am looking forward a similar situation here. Thank you for allowing to lean on you and the "crew" during my journey.
