Snow Chains...
Now there is a question...
Can you or should you have and fit snow chains on a Classic?

Nope, never, ever. The weight of the coach (with fresh tires) will get one through most situations. The bottom line is: fuel, propane, food and libations.
Just pull over before it's too late and ride it out. That's what the mo/ho is designed to do.When in perfect tune and attention paid to details and you know you might be going into harm's way, big deal.

I agree that if possible stay put or pull over to a safe place and wait it out.
HOWEVER -- The law in my location, BC states, "all vehicles traveling in winter conditions will have winter tires and/or carry chains" .

Very few RV'rs would want winter tires so the only cheap/reasonable/legal option would be to carry chains.

Cable chains are light and easy to use if necessary.

Note: -- It is also illegal to park in chain-up pull-offs, as they have limited area and are for the purpose of mounting chains. If an enforcement officer see's you parked there because of weather and you do not have chains, you will be charged.

Dave

PS Rather than hijacking this thread, I will start a new one on winter travel tips.

Good points Mike...
You have to have Vodka onboard to "Winterize" the Motorhome, in Extreme conditions, I am told...

I asked because on our wish list is some trips to Yosemite, Mammoth, Yellowstone, and Alaska, and dependant on weather you could get caught out.
I am planning on putting All season/Traction tires on the dually driven axle when they come due for replacement.
I read a story not long back on thes board about getting stuck on a wet grassy field.
I have had personal experience with simple directional ribbed tires on snow, and mud... Not good!

Something like these...
Continental HDR

I am also concerned about the effect the tag axle has on traction for those that have one.

I had a situation where I turned around on a sideroad and a dip in the kerb unloaded the drive axle on one side enough to cause me to spin a wheel!
With no locking differetial, I nearly got stuck, and that was on a dry dusty track!
So had a thought about maybe being able to overide the Airbag control, and push more weight onto the driven axle... this would also allow you to lift the rear end up to stop grounding out, or even to allow you to escape if you got stuck...

You must have some free time to dig up that old post. Hope you are enjoying the airforums. Enjoy your time in Florida and have a good trip north.

That's an easy mistake to make. Sort of like TV (Two Vehicle) and TV (Television). That's free Polish. The spotter now owes the spotted a Polish Dog.

But hey, they're (Polish Dogs) Airstream shaped.

FL State WBCCI Rally, Sarasota, FL

Day trip to Sarasota for the Rally. Wow! What a bunch of nice folks! No matter, motorhome, travel trailer, vintage, brand new, didn't matter. Will be heading back tomorrow for the Flea Market. Airstream actually had an area set up with all sorts of goodies! Got a couple of things, mostly crap I didn't need, lol. Enjoy the pix. Derek

Dean, Dickie (Raveson) told me he found the material online and had it made for less than $175! Best part about cover, no one can see in, but you can see out! Dickie said he'd give me a link or two once he's back online. Thanks, Derek
